My bub is 12months and I am nurseing twice a day.

She was premmie and it was so hard to start nursing that I am not really ready to stop.

But.. I am 36 and the clock is ticking.

Would it be easier to concieve if I stopped BF?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Debz,
I think you have answered your own question - firstly, you say you arent ready to wean and that your bub was premmie - so you are aware of her needs and obviously enjoy breastfeeding. I would say, these are compelling reasons to continue. In fact there are lots of good reasons to continue breastfeeding, especially the health of your little one.

Regarding conception, you may or may not conceive more easily if you wean - total breastfeeding ( no solids or sucking other than at the breast -ie liquids, teats, dummmies or bottles ) does inhibit fertility for 'most' women but weaning ( defined by the introduction of other foods/ sucking) usually sees the return of fertility.

The important advice in my opinion is to enjoy THIS child NOW, not wish away the precious moments you have for the possibilty of another child that you may or may not conceive. Also imagine how you would feel if your child's health was compromised by weaning - even two feeds a day is protective - especially if it made no difference to your fertility.

Are you ovulating? Have your periods returned? If so, there is a good possibility that you will soon conceive as your body is ready.
