Helping the swimmers reach the eggie

a little embarrassing but I'm asking anyway :o ........every time DH and I BD'd before we were TTC, I always got up and went to the loo to you know...clean up.

Now that we are TTC, I kinda lay there for awhile longer but it always seems to trickle out anyway. Now... just how many swimmers are actually getting up there as so much seems to come back out>

What should I do, stand on my head?

Hmmm yep i know exactly what ur talking bout and i was to embarssed to ask:laughing:
I to used to get up straight after the deed was done and now i lay there with a pillow under my bottom and i feel it running out 2.

DH and I never used any contraception. We decided to "start trying" which meant I started taking folate and I quite smoking. And that month, every time we BD'd, afterwards I'd spin around and put my legs up in the air, against the wall. I'd lay there for a while. I got pregnant the second month of doing that.
Another thing that can help the swimmers along is if the woman has an orgasm after the man has ejaculated - when you orgasm, your cervix tips slightly and "collects" the sperm. :thumbsup:

I got a few giggles with this analogy in another thread so here goes:

Ejaculate fluid isnt just sperm. its mostly seminal fluid, which is there to lubricate the urethra and then the vagina and move the little swimmers along. Once its in the vagina, its job is done. Its like when they launch a space shuttle and as soon as it leaves the atmosphere the blasters detach and fall back to earth coz their job is done :D What leaks out is mostly that fluid because the healthy swimmers are going like the clappers towards the eggy!
And remember, there are million of sperm in each ejaculation, and it only takes one! And the average speed that the spermies come out of the penis? 28 miles per hour!! thats 45km an hour! by the time they leak out they have been bouncing around for a bit lol ;)

Thanks for your honesty and I will try both methods. I will also be sure to let DH know about the orgasm fact....having said that, I'm off to BD! ;)

Not that I am pg yet, but what I was told to do is after bding, straight away, lay on your back (if you're not already there :D ), and bend your legs, with feet on the floor and push your tummy in the air, so that gravity starts moving those swimmers upwards, then relax your bum and stick your hands clenched under your bum or stick a pillow under your bum and lay there for 15/20 mins. sometimes i would be so tired i would fall asleep like that :eek: , wouldnt i get a nice surprise in the morning :(

One other question though - if you are not Oing when you BD, will the swimmers still get through the cervix? As I thought that the cervix only opened when you are Oing?? :confused:

We were trying for 6 months with no luck then a friend told me to turn around afterwards and put my legs against the wall for 10mins and presto the next month we were pg! Don't know whether it was just a coincidence but hey why not give it a go! PS. Get DH to do it with you then you don't feel so silly.

The cervix is always open not just at Oing time. Hence, you can have sperm inside of you that lives for a while if you then O the egg may get fertilized. Apparently, male sperm are faster swimmers and girl sperms are slower but live longer so if you want a boy BD as close to O as possible. A girl is more likely to be produced if you BD before O and then abstain at Oing time. But if you don't care about the sex of baby just BD away merrily - that's what I'm doing!

Well, DH and i have been BDing daily since Sunday and again this morning, as I am about to fly to FIJI for a week (for work, so DH isn't coming :( ). I should O in the next couple of days, so hopefully the little swimmers will stick around long enough to meet up with eggie :fingerscrossed:

Will keep OPK testing while I'm away to see when I actually am Oing.

Maybe you and DH should make a quick trip to 'somewhere private' at the airport and get one last go in! :laughing:
