so ds#2 will be 3.5 when bubba arrives. he is special needs, and is a wild man when not in a pram. he screams about going in the pram but when he is out of it, we hafto leave where ever we are. and given his special needs, i dont see that ending for quittttttttte a while. he is a big boy around 19kgs..

so im after a pram that will suit our needs.

another thing im after is, when he is older like 4.5 or ever 5 and the new bub will still be in the pram, that we can basically remove whatever part was for ds#2 so its not insanely bulky for single child trips.

does a pram like this exist?

TIA

Hey hey got some sharing?

In answer to your question, my dd2 will be about the same age when this one is born - about 3y3mths - and I'm going with a Phil and teds because she's a bigger kid, she weighs almost 18 right now and is a PITA when not in a pram. And plus they go single for when the bigger kids big enough. If I come acros the exact model I'll link you somehow but yeah, it's best suited to us. I looked at strider and just putting a toddler seat on but it wasn't for us.

Now... News?

oh bones thank you! i did like the look of the striders, i had a bulky three wheeler back in the day and i hated it (granted, it was some cheap piece of crud), are all phil and teds three wheelers? a model would be great if u can find it

O.M.G. Congratulations!!!

I have a velcro rebel (old scool...bought in 2005) and a toddler seat and my kids don't weigh much and I can honestly tell you you will want a proper double pram...whatever you go for. Don't go for anything that puts a lot of weight on the front...I think toddler attachments only go up to 18kgs anyway but they are a bit awkward with a lot less weight on them for that. It was fine for our needs but definitely won't suit yours.
I hate prams and haven't looked at them seriously since I bought mine in 2005 so that is as far as my advice goes.

I had a Phil & Teds and I thought the seats weight limit was 18kg?

thank you lovelies.

and thanks for the tips. yeh i dont think Boo would cope being up high in the front (like ive seen with some toddler seats) its hard enough pushing him in his little stroller

Congratulations!!

Ill have a look after dinner for the one I'm after. They seem the same but then there are slight differences. One baby shop said there is a toddler seat that is high backed and takes up to 25kg but I still don't think dd would like being in that.

Thanks everyone :smiliedance: ta bones!

I care for my severely autistic nephew for a few hours each week. He is a boisterous, energetic bundle of fun.

He can also have a major meltdown at the drop of a hat, pushes my patience to the limit, can be violent and aggressive.

He is non-verbal at 7 years of age, not a single word. My heart breaks for him as I can see him become so frustrated within himself when he can't get his point across.

His highs are high and his lows are low.

I take my hat off to any parent that lives this life day in day out. Let alone to have multiple children with the disorder and have a heart as big as yours sounds. I hope you have a good support network and people who look out for you the way you look out for your boys.

You are a wonderful aunt. What a great help that would be, your doing a great job. :) im lucky that my boys are verbal. The sensory stuff makes them ticking timebombs but we combat that the best we can, and this is just our kind of normal, we know no different. Once again thank you for your kind words, im sitting here having an emotional cry lol.

Any other pram experts out there?

I'll be in the same boat, a 3.5yr old and newborn. I was thinking of a good quality double and keeping my single for single child trips.
it will be a pita to have two prams but my ds has just turned 3 and although only 15kg, is tallish and doesn't fit into the toddler seat on the baby jogger city select (1st choice)
I was thinking of keeping my single baby jogger city elite and getting a double baby jogger city mini gt which is new and should be instores soon.
hope that helps; a lot of the new prams out now seem to be aimed at younger/smaller children ie closer age gaps...

ETA: As for prams, we bought a Phil and Teds E3 (I think it was an E3?) with the double attachment and it served us really really well! I am still so in love with my pram even though we never use it anymore.

I love my strider plus with my newborn a jasper turned 3 in November and weighs 19kgs.

But I would love it less if I had to put it in a car boot!

I despised my P&T's I had a sport and used it with DS1 and DS2 - they were 20months and newborn and I used it until DS1 was around 3.5 (only because I couldn't afford another pram) Honestly though, it was heavy, bulky I found it hard to manouver and difficult to use.
I had a strider with DS1, I love it, it is a wide pram but definietly not bulky or hard to handle, I was so annoyed because the Strider Plus came out about a week after I got my P&T's!

Thanks for the advice everyone, i decided to just get (well havent gotten it yet) a single pram, and will get a good carrier. So if ds#2 is being difficult he can go in the pram and bubba in the carrier. I cant really justify a super expensive pram for the possibility of 6 month use as he already doesnt want in the pram as it is now. Im hoping he improves over the next 8 months.

I could have written this post myself! Except my DD has only just turned 2 and is 11.5kgs. I love our city elite and will definitely be keeping it and we are almost decided on getting the city mini gt double for when I have both kids out and about. Had a play with a single gt today at Mothercare and it's lovely - just need to test out the width of the double  - the specs say that it's just 3 inches wider than my single elite that I am already used to, so hopefully it wont be too big a difference

A friend has a Mountain Buggy - not sure of the name but I think it is one of these (http://mountainbuggy.com/en/buggies/double/plus-one)

Her 4 year old is almost blind so she finds it easier to push him than have him walk, he is a solid little man about average height and he looks quite comfy in this pram.

Goodluck.

We will have a similar age gap when our second one arrives in June. We went to baby on a budget with our eldest and tried practically every pram and decided on the strider plus four. Bub can face you or away. Have a car carrier and second seat for older one. Older child can get in without disturbing the balance of the pram. Great reviews. A bit heavy but no heavier than my quinny that I had last time. It also has a massive shopping basket. Can't wait to get ours!

We have a 6 mo (11.5kgs) and 20 mo (15.5kgs), we had an old p&t explorer which was a piece of crap and tilted. We bought a new p&t explorer ( new version but the rear seat is more upright ) and already I can see DS will struggle in the rear seat. Other than that I do like it. But I really wanted a baby jogger city mini double...DH didn't!

I was going to suggest this :) I really don't think an inline work. If you decide to go with a double have a look at the mountain buggy duo very sturdy and holds up to 25kg per seat, fits any combo of my kiddies (DS1-4.5 yrs, DD 8 months or DS2 3.5 yrs). Very bulky in the car but that's the only down side I have come across. 'Only' cost me $700 too, I know not really cheap but cheaper than a lot of those that are in that tandem range.

I was going to suggest an ergo + pram but sometimes I feel like I preach a little too much about babywearing  I often wear DS2 in the ergo and push DS1 around in our city mini...sometimes he walks, but it's usually a nightmare if i'm alone (he's a runner). It's a cheaper and easier option, especially when you don't know how long your DS will tolerate the pram for.

I don't think i've used the double pram enough to justify actually spending the money on it. It is handy for certain situations, but for the price tag of most tandems, you would probably want to get a lot of use out of it.

Yeah, we dont really have a lot of boot space either, plus if ive got to lift heavy stuff that will pose a prob in the beginning...

We took ds#2 for a walk today, no pram. He held our hand on the way there, then turned into a feral on the walk back, was trying to run on the road like a wild boar.... I was like "oh my gawd...theres no way he cant be in a pram if im on my own!!!! with a baby!!!"

My fear has kicked in... Will 8 months make a difference i wonder? Eeeesh lol.

I do like me the ergo galaxy? :D

Im just getting brave enough to let jasper walk when I cant hold his hand. Mainly because we moved to a quieter area its not like walking alongside the gold coast HWY.

Though nearly 3.5 jasper has a little sense of self preservation.

I bought a wrist strap for DS1 and have attached one end to the side of the pram.

It's been a great way to teach him to walk next to the pram without me having multiple heart attacks thinking he's going to do a runner on me every 2 minutes.

It's a coil body board type springy thing so he does have some give in where he can walk.

We r due in five'ish weeks and have just ordered the strider plus four, with second seat and baby carrier (capsule). As it is an Australian product they only take a couple of weeks to come in. We got all three things in toffee for $650 as Mothercare doesn't want to stock this colour anymore. These things should have been closer to $1000. I suggest calling them up if u r seriously keen. However if you are still unsure what u want to do, u have plenty of time. I was in a very similar conundrum. Waiting to get the pram hasn't changed my dd inability to walk long distances. However the warranty begins from the time you pay for it so better to wait till bub is almost here. Congrats on your pregnancy. I hope it's very uneventful.

I keep fantasizing about the bebe care brand one that's similar because the main seat converts to a bassinet (so cool)

I won't get it but it's a nice pram.
