What is the quickest natural way to get some movement? My DD has tried pooing twice today and has not been successful. I have tried some prune juice (half a tablespoon) this morning but it doesn't seem to have taken affect yet. How long should it take and would there be a quicker alternative? Brown sugar in her bottle or pears? Help!

i think ds is a bit constipated at the moment. so i gave him some pureed pumpkin this morning - it seems to soften things up a bit. seems to have worked somewhat - the inevitable orange-poo was in his last nappy and had softened it a bit.

Pureed pears is excellent. When my bub went 2 days without a movement a few weeks ago, I gave him pears for his 3 solid meals that day and sure enough...all the next day it was poo heaven (or hell...hmmm).

I try to make sure he has pears every 2nd day at the least to keep him regular now.

Also try offering more water with meals :)

Good luck

Robin Barker in her books suggests pureed prunes. Basically boil some prunes up with water until it's all soft. Blend and you can then freeze them in ice cube containers to use when needed.

I find dates work well too, actually, any fruit that's naturally high in sugar will give that effect. Make sure your DD is drinking plenty of water (or breastmilk depending on the age???) and has a diet high in fibre.

Dates, porridge and bananas are my standard ammo. Stewed rhubarb is good, too, if they will eat it (and if you can get it).

Licorice is good, too, but it's got to be the real stuff from the health food shop, not just the artificial rubbish from the supermarket. Green Grove Organic licorice is really nice.

half to one teaspoon of brown sugar with 30mls water (dilute it). All the best.

half to one teaspoon of brown sugar with 30mls water (dilute it) helps with constipation.

half to one teaspoon of white sugar with 240mls water if diarrohea or very weak cordial.

All the best.

The prune juice is a good idea, but follow it up with plenty of water! A well hydrated body will produce a softer and easier to pass poo!

I agree with the brown sugar and cooled boiled water!
When DS was constipated not long ago, i gave him the sugar and water mix 2-3 times a day for 2 days and the next day he had a movement.
He now has movements at least once a day. (He was every 2 weeks before starting on solids!)

I am feeding him pureed pears with either his breaky or lunch every day so that is probably why!

Good Luck.
