Not sure if there's a topic already or not but just want to know when your 3 yr old goes to bed??
Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep?
Do they fall asleep in their bed or elsewhere eg lounge, your bed??
Do they have a day nap still?? If they do, what time do they go to bed??
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally??
Thanks

My DS2 was 3 in November he has gone to bed at 6pm for at least the past year he has only just started falling asleep on his own in his own bed, before the he would fed to sleep then we moved onto cuddles to sleep then into his own bed sidecaring next to my bed holding hands then moved his bed into his brothers room and I would lay on a spare mattress next to his bed while he fell asleep. It's been a long long long road! We tried doing it the hard way but it was too distressing for everyone involved.
He hasn't day napped since he was 18 months. He used to wake up a lot during that transition phase when we cosleep he slept right through. At the moment he is waking again around 10pm am but he is settling very quickly he usually wakes 3 times all up for a drink or a blanket readjustment but it's quiet easy to tend to him as I am right there.
Eta he gets up at 5:30-6am sometimes 6:30 :)
My ds was 3 in january.
Its different now with daylight savings but his usual bed times were 7:30 (just after dark) and his day nap I would try to put him down after lunch roughly 12-1 and not let him sleep more than 4 hours but sometimes he would only sleep 30 mins. Now with daylight savings we eat earlier so he goes to bed a little earlier too.

Oh he sleeps in his bed not on lounge/our bed ect. And only wakes up if he is sick (so in pain, vomiting ect) or if he has had a bad dream (hardly ever but sometimes he needs comforting) a few, wweks ago we had a bad storm and really bad thunder (i swear it shook our house) woje him up.

My Dd isn't 3 until August but she goes to bed between 7 and 815. We have a routine of dinner, bath, tidy up, teeth and toilet, into bed where I read 3 books then toilet again then she has a nightlight and can sit up for 15-20 minutes to look at books herself. So she falls asleep in her own bed. Most days she still has a day sleep for 1-3 hours. If she has a sleep she goes to bed at night a bit later (815) or no day sleep means she is in bed by 7-730. She does wake sometimes through the night usually because of a bad dream or to wee or if she has an accident.
Mine is 3 years, 5 months. He goes to bed at 630, on his own in his own room. This has been for a year, before that he was fed to sleep. He doesn't have a nap and if he falls asleep in the car for even 10-15 mins, he won't go to sleep til 9!!
He wakes a couple of times a week, to have his blankets fixed or occasionally wets the bed. He gets up between 515 and 615 *groan*

Not quite 3 but.
Now sleeps for an hour max or has quite time.
Has fallen asleep once in our bed.
No set bed time but the routine of bath books bed starts at 7:30 ends at 8:30-9:00.
She wakes a lot for a short period maybe two weeks the goes back to sleeping through weeks on end.
When things get bad, there bad. Waking 1-3 times a night, every time being hysterical. Sleeps way to long during the day or not at all. Is horrible from 6:00pm and goes to bed at 9 and cries non stop unless I am there, not going to bed for ages. The latest being 11pm.
But when it good it great. Bed by 8:30, happily going to bed, wakes at 8:30am and is happy all day.
We have had much more good times then bad since she turned 2. We tend to have bad runs when a) she is having a brain spurt b) a near fear appears like a fear of the dark or most recently death c) she is getting sick d) she is not eating or resting properly during the day or e) she has not gotten enough quality time with DP and I.

my son 3yrs4months goes to bed at 7pm, i still have to lay with him and i think he has slept through the night once. definitely wasn't more than that one time!
he rarely naps but if he does he will go to bed around 8.30.
Our li'l guy goes to bed at around 10pm. If he goes any earlier, he wakes at about 5am. It's the only way to get him to sleep til about 7am. He sleeps through the night most nights. It's just the way he has always been. I'm hoping to change his routine when he gets a bit older.

Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep? DD1 goes to bed at 7pm every night, though some nights I put her to bed at 6:30pm if she is driving me a bit crazy.
Do they fall asleep in their bed or elsewhere eg lounge, your bed?? She falls asleep in her bed, always.
Do they have a day nap still?? No she doesn't have any naps.
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally?? 99% of the time she sleeps through, every now and then she may wake up for a drink or something.

Ds is 3 and 4 months, he dropped regular naps a few months ago, but he has one every 3-5days or so, on nap days he goes to bed at 7.30ish, on no nap days he goes to bed at the same time as DD(18months) at 6.30ish (or earlier if he is really falling apart).
He has always gone to sleep in his own bed - HATES bed sharing if he isn't sick - and he has rarely had problems/wakings (except for a few months recently, but it's all good again now). He never woke during the night, but he has now taken to coming into my bed every morning during the wee hours. Oh, and of course, since being toilet trained he often wakes once a night for a pee. He used to go back to his own bed, but not lately.
Our routine is bath/shower, teeth, 2 stories and 5 songs(about 4mins of singing). On No-nap days he is out like a light before the 4th song, and on nap days I leave him awake and be does his thing til he falls asleep. He will often come out to blow us a kiss and say goodnight for the 4th time, which I know is curtain calling, but I love too much to stop :)
Set time is 6.30-7ish.
She goes to sleep in her bed.
She does have a day nap, used to be 12-2 but with Kindy she is starting to skip it, or have it later and sleep less. At home she chooses to nap wherever she wants, it does not affect night time routine.
Sometimes she wakes up ti go to the toilet but takes herself straight back to bed. She mostly hops in our bed when the sun comes up.

Ds goes to bed at 7.30 in his own bed he shares are room with his big brother so half the time they also share are bed unless they play up to much then I seperate them. When not at preschool he has a 2 hr nap in the arvo no set time whenever ds3 goes down for his second nap.
My children always go to sleep in bed.
My 3 year old goes to bed between 7-8. Usually it's around 7:30, however, with daylight savings just ending, she has been waking up an hour earlier, so I've been putting her to bed a little earlier the last couple of days. Last night she went to bed at 6:30. I'm hoping after a week, she will go to bed and wake up at the usual time, which is usually around 6:30/7, but she has been waking up at 5:30/6 with daylight savings ending  I do lay with her every night for a little bit, this has only been happening for the last 5 or 6 months, but it doesn't bother me to lay next to her.
She wakes up some nights for a drink or just a cuddle. She grew out of her nap just after the age of 3. Sometimes I think she still needs one, but she would not go to bed until really late (well for her anyway) so I don't bother.
my 3 yr old is a total night owl. If he has a day sleep, he's up with me to 9 - 10pm, then when he's tired he goes down.
If he doesn't have a day sleep, no difference! I thought he'd be like my other 2 and then his sleep time would be 7 0r 8 or even earlier, but NO. Still up with me bouncing off the walls.

Not sure if there's a topic already or not but just want to know when your 3 yr old goes to bed??
6:30 if no day sleep - 7:30/8pm if he has had a day sleep
Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep?
That's the time :)
Do they fall asleep in their bed or elsewhere eg lounge, your bed??
I tuck him into bed, read him a story and then light off. Sometimes he falls straight to sleep - sometimes I can hear he is still awake an hour later ... He never comes put unless he needs to go to the toilet.
Do they have a day nap still??
Sometimes
If they do, what time do they go to bed??
Answered above
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally?? Only I'd he has an accident and I need to change the sheets.
Not sure if there's a topic already or not but just want to know when your 3 yr old goes to bed?? 7pm
Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep? set time to be in bed (7pm) he often will play in his bed for 15 mins or so.
Do they fall asleep in their bed or elsewhere eg lounge, your bed?? Normally in his bed
Do they have a day nap still?? If they do, what time do they go to bed?? Only on pre prep days, bed time stays the same
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally?? occasionally he climbs into my bed and is asleep instantly. He is put back in his bed.

Thanks for the replies ladies.
Its good to read what other 3yr olds are up to with sleeping and bed time.
I'm just wondering if I should give my son an actual bedtime, because some nights he is asleep by 8pm but other nights, like last night, he didn't fall asleep until 9:30pm and thats because I was going to sleep and I made him go to sleep in his bed while I sat at the end of his bed.
I have been letting him fall asleep on the lounge, but when its nights where he is up past 8pm and i want to get to bed a decent hour, I'll get him to lay in his bed and I have to sit at the end of his bed until he falls asleep and is in that deeper sleep before I move. If i move before he is really asleep, he gets worked up and then we have to start all over again.
He hardly has a day nap now. If he does, its at daycare and max an hour but most of the time its 30mins. If he does have a day nap, he usually is up late, eg 9:30/10pm... not good when I'm wanting to go to bed myself.
There was the couple months last year where he wouldn't go to sleep in his bed, it had to be in my bed. Before that he'd happily fall asleep in his bed or on the lounge. I then got sick of carrying him to his bed, because once I was in bed I'd fall asleep as well.
Sometimes it seems he is having a bad dream. Usually he sleeps all the way through say 8pm until 6/6:30am, but just over the last month he has been stirring two or three times a night. Then just this past week he has been waking up with a pain cry at least twice a night. I think he's got a stuffy nose, because he asks for a drink and tissue. During the day he is fine, so just seems the night time cool air and laying down makes him stuffed up. Last night I gave him Demazin before bed and he slept all through the night. Think will have to give him that and use the saline nasal spray. Then hopefully once we get the stuffy nose fixed up (using saline nasal spray) that he'll stay asleep longer and all through the night. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind that he stirs once or twice every now and then, but it seems to be when its the night I really need my sleep because I'm sick or having a bad time with my aches and pains.

Not sure if there's a topic already or not but just want to know when your 3 yr old goes to bed?? 6pm or 6.30 if she isn't tired yet.
Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep? Yes - 6-6.30. It's not set in stone though, she may on occasion stay up a bit later.
Do they fall asleep in their bed or elsewhere eg lounge, your bed?? In her own bed
Do they have a day nap still?? If they do, what time do they go to bed?? No day naps
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally?? rarely - only if she is sick or had a nightmare. Majority of the time she sleeps until around 7am.
My son is 3.5 and he normally goes to bed about 9pm and wakes up between 7am and 8am. He sleeps through.
He goes to bed with my in my bed, but we are going to transition him to his own room after Easter.
He only occasionally has a day nap, unfortunately, even though he really needs one. He's just so stubborn that by the time he falls asleep it's too late in the day, and it means he will be up all night.

Wow i am surprised how late some kids go to bed tbh.
The book about sleep that I am reading says that kids up to 4 shouldn't be up later than 8pm. They need a good nights sleep to function, if they go to bed late and need to get up early for kindy, school etc they haven't got adequate sleep therefore would not be functioning to their full capacity during the day.
Bedtime should be a part of your night time routine. Dinner, bath, bed and all within the hour. My ds is nearly 4, he has not and we would not allow him to stay up later than 8pm when we are at home. Even if we are out we usually get home in time for his bedtime but on the odd occasion this doesn't happen we aren't out for too long after. Since starting kindy he is in bed at 7am. If you introduce good habits early then there shouldn't be any reason for your child not to want to go to sleep at a reasonable time. He has been sleeping through long before he was 2yrs. He will occasionally have a day sleep on the weekend. He wakes between 6-6.30am. We are early risers due to daycare, work, kindy but see no reason to be in bed beyond 7am regardless, half the day is over by then.

AM - I also have a night owl. My 3 yr old goes to bed any time between 8pm and 1am, although the 1am was only once. She doesn't go to sleep by herself, needing to rub my arm to self soothe. She usually goes to sleep on the lounge chair and then DH and I will move her into her room. That rarely lasts all night though as most nights she also wakes between either 2-3am or 5-6am and comes into our room and sneaks up on the bed in between us. Some nights we don't notice for a while that she's there, other nights she kicks and squirms and eventually my DH gets up and moves into the living room to sleep on the lounge chair as he has to get up early to go to work and needs sleep.
We've recently bought DD a ladybird that lights up the ceiling with stars and a moon that she can turn on any night she wakes up as I thought she might stay in her room all night ... it hasn't worked yet . We've also set up a curfew of 10pm (I know that's late, but it's a start) and if she isn't asleep before then we'll put her in her room and shut the door. Last night she screamed so much that DH sat in her room with her until she went to sleep, which took another hr! She's never been a huge sleeper.:(
Ds1 will be four in June. He goes to bed at 7.30 every night (unless we have something on) and has a 1.5-3 hour nap everyday.
Him and ds2 who is 2 years 4 months share a room so sleep for the same amount of time. Both go to sleep in their beds...
They normally wake up about 6.30 (was 7.30 before damn daylight saving!)

My 3yr old goes to bed around 9pm. She wakes up about 8ish give or take. She sometimes goes to bed alot earlier depending on what we've done that day, she'll tell me she is tired and ready for bed. She is only just starting to sleep through (with help of the bedroom light staying on )without waking from night terrors.
She gave up her day time nap around about 2yrs old :( I miss nap time.

Wow, that's at least 12hrs a day! I can only wish my DD would sleep that long. She's lucky to get 8hrs a day, but it hasn't seemed to have effected her though as she met her milestones early (walked at 8mths) and people always comment at how bright she is. :)
They're just like adults aren't they! I'm much the same as my boys. I can't function without at very least 8 hours sleep but would happily sleep 10 hours everynight. Whereas df can get by on an average of 4-5 hours a night. Sooo glad my boys got my sleep needs not he's hehe

DD1 was 3 in December & goes to bed at 7:30pm
She sleeps until 7-7:30am & does not wake at night unless sick, scared (storm) or has a nightmare.
She still has a day sleep from about 1pm to anywhere between 3-3:30pm

DD's are 3 this month. They rarely have a day nap anymore, maybe once or twice a week if we've had a big morning.
We put them to bed about 8 and they sleep through until 7 or 8 the next morning.
They've only just gone back to sleeping through after having night terrors and us having to get up 3-4 times a night which was so exhausting!
Oh and they sleep together in their own bed, we just give them some milk in a sippy cup and they put themselves to bed.

Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep? DS goes to bed between 6pm and 7pm every night, though some nights it is earlier if he is unwell or seems extra tired and grumpy.
Do they fall asleep in their bed or elsewhere eg lounge, your bed?? He falls asleep in her bed.
Do they have a day nap still?? Sometimes he naps - usually max of an hour and I always wake him by 3pm or he is up too late.
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally?? most of the time he sleeps through, sometimes he may wake up for a drink or to go to the loo or for a cuddle.
He is up between 5 and 6.15 am every morning and this is regardless of his bedtime infact the later he is in bed the earlier he is up!
DD is 5 and we run the same routine for her!
What works for 1 family doesn't always work for the next.
I totally agree.

DS is 3 years 9 months; most days no sleep through the day. If he does sleep I wake him after an hour or he won't go to bed at night.
TV goes off at 7:30 we read 2 books in his bed (he's in a double bed) then lights out. Each night depends on how tired he is sometimes he's asleep by 7:45; most often he takes 10 or 15 mins to fall asleep so he's asleep by 8. On the odd occasion he's high as a kite and doesn't nod off until 9 or later but he's always in his own bed.
On the odd occasion he wets the bed (we're out of nighttime nappies) he'll wake up and I change the sheets but he always goes back into his bed. He wakes anywhere from 5am to 7:30; depends on if he's had a daytime nap (wakes earlier if he sleeps through the day). He normally calls out through the night just to see where I am but selfsettles right back off to sleep.

My 3 year year old turned 4 a few weeks ago, but he has gone to bed at 6pm his whole life- always in his own bed- a story and a quick cuddle, then I leave the room. Same thing every night. He has a day sleep on days he is at home (2 hours) and then is allowed to stay up until around 7pm. Does not wake during the night. Wakes at between 5.30 and 6am. Happy days!

My 3.5 year old sleeps at around 10pm.
She still has naps at childcare for about 30mins to 1 hour.
Generally not waking up at all until morning around 7.30 or 8am (if I'm lucky).
So our routine would be:
6.15pm gets home, then we prepare dinner while she watches TV.
Dinner at 7pm. Then play and shower at around 8.30pm.
Milk time after shower and play a little bit before brushing teeth at 9.30pm.
We tuck her in and say good night. She'll be playing with her soft toys until she falls asleep around 10pm.

DD2 is 3.5 and DD3 will be 3 in December.. They share a room and go to bed a 7pm every night. They go to sleep in their own bed and will only wake if they need to go to the toliet over night but don't wake us to go..
They used to sleep till 730am but the past few months it's been 630am..
Forgot to add they both have a 2hour day sleep around 12-2pm.. If they don't get this sleep they are so cranky so will go to bed at 6pm..

DS is almost 3. He stopped day naps over a year ago... (much to my frustration!) Only if he is really sick or massively pooped does he ask for a nap now.
He goes to bed between 7:00 and 8:00- dependent completely on the night- ie people around for dinner, having had a big day, if he's still wide awake. He likes to read (well, look at the pics!) in bed- so we tuck him in with a couple of books, close the door and leave him for 10 mins or so. When we go back in, he blows out the light and sleeps til 7:00- 8:00.
Having said that, he's been a bit unsettled with a bad cough lately, so one of us has to go in to him if he calls out for a drink.

Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep?
My ds 3.5 goes to bed at 7pm and is generally asleep within 10 minutes after routine of bath, stories and cuddles.
Do they fall asleep in their bed or elsewhere eg lounge, your bed??
In his own bed but we recently only stopped co-sleeping a few months ago.
Do they have a day nap still?? If they do, what time do they go to bed??
No day sleep anymore since moving into own room otherwise he wont sleep at night till at least 9pm
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally??
Doesnt sleep through the night ever due to waiting on an operation to have adnoids removed. He will settle back to sleep with a cuddle. Sometimes when he has pain in ears as he has recurrent ear infections he will sleep in our bed that only happens about once a month
:)
DD is 3 and a half.
Bedtime is 730pm. She usually sleeps through until 7am.
No day sleep. If she does fall asleep during the day (only ever in the car) then we have no chance of getting her to bed until at least 830pm.

Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep? Set time, every night even when we are out we lie the boys down to bed in friends bed or or a mat

I never met him go to bed after 8:30 (if we are out we are home by then)
He falls asleep in his bed. I say good night, I kiss him, turn the light off, close the door and don't hear him till morning.

when your 3 yr old goes to bed??
My son goes to bed at 8.30pm and sleeps til about 7.30-8.30am.
Do they have a set time or just whenever they fall asleep?
Set time though some nights he mucks around in his room for a few minutes before going back to bed.
Do they fall asleep in their bed or elsewhere eg lounge, your bed??
Always sleeps in his bed with a rare exception when he's had a big day and he will be reading a book one minute and be asleep on the couch next!

I wish!! Some days I have to have the fight and force him to as he is over tired and a major cranky pants but 99% of the time he parties on through the day while I want a Nanna nap Lol
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally??
Not until recently. He has had a mild case of the night terrors and since we have taken away his dummy he often wants a mummy kiss and resettles immediately :)
Not sure if there's a topic already or not but just want to know when your 3 yr old goes to bed??
7pm

She is awake in bed for anywhere from 20mins to 1.5hrs talking or singing or calling out with random requests (drink, chat, cuddle etc..)

In bed
Do they have a day nap still?? If they do, what time do they go to bed??
Yes, has a nap at 1pm most days for 1-2hrs, if she misses her nap she is usually quite cranky and irrational by the late afternoon and would have to go to bed by 6:30pm and then I find she doesn't sleep as well.
Do they wake up thru the night, a lot, sometimes or occasionally??
Yes if she can't find her dummy she calls out to me (that happens a couple of times a week, but hopefully the dummy will be gone soon as she's onto her last one!). She also comes and sleeps in bed with us if there is a storm and she gets scared. Otherwise she is asleep until 7-8am next morning.

Funny that this should be the first topic I see when I get on here tonight because I am currently trying to get my 3 year old to sleep. He is a terrible sleeper. And he is my 4th. I usually put them all to bed at 7:30pm. I sit in the hallway in between the girls room and the boys room. It's the only way they will sty in their beds. My 7 year old and 4 year old fight 24/7 and even at bed times if I'm not in my hallway location then its on like donkey kong. But presently Its 9:53pm here and I have been here since 7:30pm. Mr 3 is the only one awake. DF and other 4 children are snoring. Some nights I will cave in and he will end up on the lounge and has been known to say awake until 2am. It really does my head in. I'm lucky I can function on 4 hours sleep a night. I don't know what is so different about him and why he won't sleep :(

Oh and he naps durning the day for no longer than 90 minutes but even if he doesn't it makes no difference at night and 90% of the time he's happy. Not too grumpy at all.

My dd is almost 3. He nsps still every day, anywhere from 1 -2 hrs though he would sleep for more if I let him. going to bed at night depends on what time he wakes from his day sleep..i usually count 7-8 hrs after that and thats when hes ready for bed..so 2pm wake is about 9.30 to bed. We always fall asleep in the bed and sleep through for 9-10 hrs. Would love for him to go down earlier at night but he would nt even make it to 6pm without falling asleep:(

My 3yo is still awake now :banghead2:
He's doing my head in!!!! Out of sheer desperation I brought him out to the loungeroom and put him on the couch to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse thinking that he would fall asleep on the couch really quickly and I could transfer him. That was almost an hour and a half ago!!!!
As of tomorrow, no more day sleeps!! I've had it!!
My DD2 turned 3 last month. She goes to bed between 7 and 7.30 and takes from 30 seconds to 20 minutes to fall asleep. She shares a room with DD1 and I have to wait until she is asleep before DD1 can go to bed. She only ever falls asleep in her own bed.
She hasn't had a regular day nap since before she was 2- on the rare occasion she falls asleep in the car, etc, she'll be awake until after 9.
She sleeps until about 7, and sometimes will have bad dreams or have a whinge in her sleep because she needs a drink of water, or has lost her doll or needs her blankets pulled up. Most of the time she sleeps through, it's generally if she's not well that she'll need attention at night.

DD is 3 in a couple of months. She always goes to sleep in her bed, usually around 7pm, with DH or I lying/sitting with her until she falls asleep. Generally takes about 5mins on non daycare days. When at home during the day she has not napped since she just turned 2. At daycare (twice a week) she naps some days (maybe 70% of the time) and goes to bed about 8pm those nights. They are never fun nights because she really plays up in bed and doesn't fall asleep easily. She wakes around 5.30/6am. She really needs to sleep until 6.30am for it to be "enough" but it just doesn't happen.
She sleeps through about 80% of the time, waking occasionally for a drink, bad dream, cuddles, sickness, etc.

My ds1 is nearly 5. And ds2 is nearly 2. They both have bedtime routines, always have done, they also both go to sleep in their own beds. Ds2 goes to bed at 7pm and ds1 goes to bed at 7.30. Ds2 still has a 2hr day sleep and I will be encouraging him to continue that until he is 3.5yrs at least. Ds1 had a day sleep until he was 4yrs so hopefully ds2 will be the same.
