KEMH family birth centre

Hello,

I am hoping someone can shed some light for me!

I am going to be TTC our first in a couple months and I really want to birth at the FBC at KEMH. I am a midwife myself but I work in private so dont know very much about the birthing centre. What I have concerns about is that one of my friends was turned away from the FBC when she was in established labout becuase they were full that night and she had to go to the main hospital and they didnt know her and she did not have a good experience. I am just wondring if anyone else has had this experience? If it is a common thing that they are commonly too full then I do not want to book in there as I do not want to birth in the main hospy - I have done lots of pracs there as a student and they are alwasy very busy and stretched thin with resources and rooms!
If anyone has birthed at the FBC and has any advice for me or want to let me know their experience that would be great as well!?
I tried to get information from the FBC about transfer rates up to the main hospy but I dont think they are allowed to give out that sort of information.

Hi button, I know about 4 people that have given birth there and they have nothing but good things to say. I agree with you not wanting to give birth in the main hospital though. Have you asked the birthing centre how often that happens?? The only other time I've heard of them turning people away is if they've had any health probs during pregnancy eg gestational diabetes or a BMI that's too high. That's all I can tell you. I had DD at st johns in suburb and I couldn't fault them. They were amazing through it all!!!
