Hi, just wondering if anyone could tell me why my baby always throws up when breastfeeding? I burp her regularly....
I am finding that she doesn't throw up at all when she has a bottle of ebm or formula.
Any ideas?

My 3rd son was like this, he would just gulp and guzzle the milk way too fast and it would come straight back up as a huge power chuck, so I found the only way to combat it was to feed.... rest..... feed.....rest during the feed, just to allow his stomach to accept the milk, and for his 'full' signal to kick in. No idea why formula is different (never used it) but perhaps 'cos it is thicker?

Is it milky vomit or does it reak? I find milky vomit tends to be what AM said- over eating lol

It's definitely milky vomit. After I burp her I put her back on the breast again and she's always keen to keep going. What do u think?

What happens if you give her a few minutes as AM suggested?

Do you have a fast let down, or lots of foremilk? I have both and my 4wk old throws up heaps, I only know it is this because I had same with DD1 & spent lots of time on phone to ABA. I feed her so she has to suck up (i recline and put her in a sitting position), burp regularly and only feed one breast per feed so she gets lots of hindmilk. I also hold ger upright over my shoulder for 5min after feed, then lay her flat for a few minutes, then over the shoulder again and she does another burp. She seems to be getting better as her tummy matures too (she was born early). I cant hold her without a few spew rags handy, but we are getting there. As long as your bub has lots of wet nappies and is gaining weight, it should be fine, just uncomfortable. Good luck.

Have you tried nursing while lying down? This can be useful as the milk is slowed slightly, and bub can have a bit longer to be able to accept the milk properly

Thanks so much for the tips. I am going to try feeding her while i'm reclining, maybe I'm making it too easy for her - I do think I have a quick letdown.
It's just so distressing to see so much milk coming back up (distressing for me, I don't think it bothers her at all!).

I just fed my baby girl when I was reclining a bit and I had no spews at all! Yay! Maybe I just had to make het work for it more.

Sounds like a win-win! Baby doesn't vomit AND you get to lay back in the recliner at regular intervals :D
