I am not sure if I am posting this in the right spot so I appologise in advance if I haven't
I have been put on Clexane due to recurring m/c and have just started injecting 2 days ago when I got a positive blood test. For those who have done this or are doing this I am curious to know what works best for you?
I was told by my nurse to inject on an angle, but after today I am not sure so sure. I am very lean which makes the whole grabbing fat thing a little difficult so I am a little worried that if I went on an angle I wouldnt be going in deep enough (if that makes sense)
Any tips or advise for a newbie :o
What works best for you?
I have plenty of flab so I just stuck it straight in. I find ice bricks can help numb the area if it's hurting. The last skinny girl I knew that took it had her dh inject her bum, straight in I think.
You'll get used to it and find what works for you. Good luck!

You only have to get it into the fat layer under the skin. You don't have to go deep. I had to give clexane injections to an old lady who was literally skin and bone. I pinched her tummy skin and just put it in there. I had to be very careful as there was only about a 5mm fold of skin between my fingers. I am sure if you are a healthy adult, you have more than that.
Enter this into google "administering subcutaneous injections". It returns lots of useful hints and videos that will be helpful.
It is meant to be done at an angle so you get it into the fat layer. Doing it straight in gives a lot greater chance of it hitting into muscle which you don't want. It is to be injected into fat so that it is released slowly into the system.

Thanks heaps for that girls!! I guess I was paranoid because when I read the leaflet last night it said to insert at a 90degree angle where I have been doing it at around a 45 degree angle. I am sure I will get the hang of it :-) I think after having so many m/c I am just a worry wort when it comes to pregnancy.

Hi cherished - just to give a nurse's perspective. Clexane is known as a deep subcutaneous injection, which is why the leaflet would say to go at 90 degrees (whereas most subcut injections are at a 45) I would think it would be easier to give to yourself to go at 90 degrees as well?
Just make sure you pinch up a bit of fat on your belly. you dont need too much as PP said, even skinny little old ladies have enough to work with! I wouldn't worry yourself too much about the angle though, as long as the needle goes right in. Also remember that the air bubble goes in last, so when your pushing it in the air bubble should be at the plunger end. Good luck and hopefully it does the trick! :babydust1:
