Not 1 all 4 of them died today :crying:
I was getting the girls looked after and i got a phone call saying 1 had died because the girls got them out... (don't ask how because they couldn't reach in the cage)
And than i got another call saying another one has died, and at that point i was getting very upset and angry.. how on earth did this happen.. i got home and they all had died.
The girls were very upset as we buried them... Don't know if i should replace them or just leave it, because we will moving down south next year..

How sad :crying: It's always awful when you lose a pet. I hope the kids aren't too upset.

Oh the poor little things.
That's strange that it just happened to all of them on the same day??
One of our pigs got realy sick, I had to feed him with baby food out of an eye dropper for weeks. He survived though (phew!)

omg thats so sad
a little piece of advice tho. if u get more and plan on using the same cage, really clean and disinfect it well because 3 of mine died and i only had one at a time as i didnt disinfect the cage between each one and they all caught the same disease :( It was horrible they were my first pets ever, waited 14 yrs to be allowed a pet and then they died. I then gave up, destroyed the horrid cage and got a dog... who 7 years on is going strong :P
:hugs: how awful :crying: ...I we have our 2 Guinea Pigs only since april, but I would very upset losing them, they become part of the family :hugs: for you all

Big :hugs: . I hope your girls aren't too upset. Losing one pet, let alone 4, is so awful :crying: ....
That is strange that all 4 of them died on the same day....and you said the girls couldn't reach the cage? Weird.....
If it was me, i'd be going out and getting some more, but like you said, you're moving next year, so maybe not a good idea?

I had a look today and no where has any.. they are so hard to get here. :crying: I am thinking of getting them a kitten, at least they don't have weak hearts..

Guinea pigs are pretty resilient animals... I had them when i was a kid and did all sorts of stressful things to them (dressing them up in dolls clothing etc)
Id be interested to know what they died of - because it seems a bit strange that your kids couldnt reach them and yet they all died on the same day.. for no apparent reason.
If you are going to move - maybe invest in a kitten instead.. at least it will survive a road trip and you wont get to your new place having to replace another animal.

i'm not sure how they died.
Mikayla said the little girl got them out and starting shaking them, and dressing them up. So i think they died from shock.
I'm not sure if the dog was involved or not, but there was any marks on them..
I went and had a look at a kitten today, and they wouldn't let me take it because i am renting and have to show my lease agreement... WTF...
I had Mikayla crying because she didn't get the kitten...
So sorry to hear about your guinea pigs. :hugs:
The reason they might not have let you take the kitten without the lease agreement is a lot of people take animals only to return them because they aren't allowed to have pets on the property and have been caught out.
I used to breed guinea pigs and I'm afraid that I have to disagree with Amberlee (sorry !!). Guinea pigs are actually quite fragile animals and will die very easily from hot/cold weather, poor diet (they have to be supplemented with Vitamin C) and shock from mishandling.
Guinea pigs should not be bought for very young children because they just don't understand how fragile they are. My cousins lost many guinea pigs over a period of a year or two because my youngest cousin (who was about 2-3 at the time) kept leaving the cage open, allowing all sorts of predators in to get them. She also dropped them, and was rough with them. Guinea pigs just don't handle this type of handling very well. We practically had to physically stop my aunty from going out and buying more guinea pigs because they were losing so many.
Anyways, I'm sorry you lost your piggies because I truly believe that they are one of the most beautiful creatures on this earth. I haven't owned any pigs myself for a couple of years (because of living arrangements), but I'm hoping to get some more soon because I just love the familiar squeak you get when you open the back door. Now I just have to work on DF... :)

I'm so sorry that you lost your little piggies. I love their squeaks too, I had them as a teenager.
But please, please give it time before looking into another pet. I'm really sad after reading this thread and it sounds like your kids need some time to mature and learn about how to treat little animals before having such delicate creatures again. It's possible for kids to learn how to treat animals without actually owning them... Maybe wait until after you move and settle in and then consider a kitten or whatever. That way you have settled in before they need to.
I'm also very, very glad that pet retaillers restrict the purchase of pets to people who can show in their lease agreement that they are permitted to live on the property. It saves so many animals from being put down when they are taken to the RSPCA and the like, because by then they are often too old to be trained/attractive to new owners.
:hugs: :hugs: for your kids, that's so sad for them.

My DH is a Vet. And even we have had 3 Guinea Pigs die on really hot days.
They are not terribly resilient, and die pretty easily.
Maybe a couple of Tamigotchis are the way to go!
We've given up.
