This section of the forum seems a little dead, so I thought I would contribute. I still find it hard to look after the little one and have time to commit to any job as a full time. I imagine other Mothers find it the same.
I think with things they way they are now and going to be even more so when NBN is fully rolled out there will be some great opportunities online for people to work.
I've recnetly built some ecommerce sites for friends of family and I have been racking my brains for something I can sell myself. I would love something I am passionate about. My husband has been doing web hosting and also selling domain names. He loves it and while he can pass some work on to me i really want to run an online shop....
Has anyone tried this? What cart did you use? What was the product? Was it fun ?

I know someone with an online fabric store trough Prestashop which is great!!
My advice would be to try and think of something different and unique, find a gap in the market and fill it. There are soooo many online shops popping up everyday so you need to be different to stand out and have a worthwhile shop. Another option could be supplying, as there are so many businesses online they all need stock for their shops. So that's another option.
Good Luck and pop back and let us know if you have decided what kind of shop you've chosen!! :)

hmm came across this thread, any updates so far? am thinking of setting up an online store for kids clothes but not sure should i manufacture my own or buy wholesale and sell?
If it were me, I would work out how much the supplies would cost in order to make things myself, the time it would take to make each item and what you feel your time is worth as a dollar figure, then add your mark up onto that and see if you can still manage to sell you items at a reasonable price. Also do your research on wholesale as this would no doubt save on time but you would have to see what price you can get for what you want , if you will make hanged to the product (again supplies cost and time cost to add to you calculation) then your mark up and finally what amount you could sell it for. You could do both as well...wholesale and handmade :)
I buy supplies for my business and assemble things myself and customize each item myself or to what my customer wants. I sell on facebook and etsy plus have an instagram account. I get to see lots o other businesses through these media's and if I see something I would like to sell as is, I plan to just contact the business and ask of they would agree to me buying bulk and selling the item under my company name but with their brand on it.
Just a little insight for you :)
