View Full Version : Help I Am Stressing Out!!!
Morning everyone,
I came into work today do to a peaceful days work, to be interupted with a phone call from my best friend to advise me that my god daughter, whom I spent yesterday and Sunday with has broken out in spots all over her body. She thinks that it is the german measles, but is getting a doctor to confirm this at 10.15 this morning. I am so stressed out, as my mother had a still born birth due to her little boy having the measles. I did have my rubella shot prior to conceiving our little man...I am 26 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I am stressing out hard! Just spke to my doctor and he said that there is not much we can do at this stage until we know what she has and until I myself get sick...and then he can run a blood test on me..... I am in a mad panic and do not want to lose this little man of mine or cause him any birth defects as a result of this....Can anyone help me out with some advice, experience with what will happen if it is measles or chicken pox please!

Hi Bec
One of the blood tests you should have had on one of your first visits to your doc after finding out you are pregnant would have tested your rubella status. Call your doctor back and check up whether this was done, and what the result was. With regards to chicken pox; if you had it growing up, you (usually) can't catch it again, unless your first dose was really mild. In any case, if you catch chicken pox it doesn't automatically mean your bub will. It's more dangerous if you have it when you deliver. I know it's all very scary, but unfortunately, like your doc said, there's not much you can do now except wait and see. Hope this helps, and hope all goes well!
Hi again,
I have just received the call from my girfriend whose doctor has assured her that my little goddaughter does not have German Measles or Chicken Pox, she has a virus....though not too sure what it is....
I have decided to go and see my GP today and get a blood test just to be safe...and sure that all is ok.
As u can imagine I am going out of my mind! But will try and remain as calm as possible for the time being......
Thanks bubbalove also for the response....

Oh Bec - try not to stress too much sweetie!! When I was about 30 weeks pregnant I had a similar thing happen to me - the girl I was training to do my job came into work with her two kids who had chicken pox. I completely freaked out and told her to get the hell out of the office! So inconsiderate! I have had chicken pox three times already - I know you're only supposed to get it once, but I'm special  . Anyway, I didn't get sick and everything was fine.
Go to the doctors for your peace of mind and take it easy! Don't put too much stress on Peanut!!

(PS 'Peanut' is so cute :p - Eloise was known as the Jellybaby!)
Thanks Rach....
I agree with you on the inconsideration of your co-worker...how rude. I am off to the doctors today at 3.30pm and am asking for a blood test just to be safe!
I will let you know how i get on.
Keep smiling :)

Morning All,
Thought u may want an update from yesterday...my rubella is at 26...which is great and to be immune it has to be greater than 10...
My goddaughter was diagnosed this morning with a childhood virus called Rosiola ( not too sure on the spelling) and I can not catch it.....
After my visit with my GP yesterday I was alot more calmer and relieved...I was then more concerned about my goddaughter not having a specific diagnosis...I am glad that all has worked out now...Phew...
Breathing calmly today.........
Hope u all have a great day

Hey Bec,
Glad everything turned out ok with the chicken pox scare! Just wanted to say that its so cute you call your baby peanut!
I have a 3 year old boy and am 35wk preg, not long after we found out, we were explaining to DS that we were going to have a baby etc and then conversation turned into "what should we call the baby?"
His first answer was "Nemo!" so that kind of stuck, it's actually become quite appropriate because no matter how big I get little Nemo still seems to find plenty of room to "swim" around! hasn't stopped moving since the first little flutter

Hey Rebecca,
Good to see you are ok an doin well , :)
i am not a mother or mother to be. i am a MAN??!!! but a father to be. i just wanted to say i can relate to your stressfulness. i am sooooooooo stressed about anything that could possibly even in the most remote circumstances happen to my wife and i's baby to be. i know it may be a bad thing to stress too much but it does show a future parent who will definitely care for their child.
i am glad and relieved for you rebecca
