Those who Breastfeed in public... do you secretly wish that someone would say something negative to you just so you can give them an earful?

I was eye-balling pedestrians and staff at a restaurant I was breastfeeding at last night... I got nothing! NOTHING! Not even a frown.
:p

Yep - got to admit I was feeding DD in the foodcourt today and would have loved someone to say something to me, just for a bit of sporting good fun!

Most of my friends and family steer clear of the 'breastfeeding issue' (not my words!) around me; I get a little passionate esp. when someone tells me that having DD crawl up to me, tap me on the chest and try to pull up my top is disgusting.

I havent had to breastfeed in public lately, I have been hibernating at home, but when I first started, yep, I would glare around the room JUST IN CASE someone wanted to eyeball me.

They were probably thinking "geez, she's not enjoying herself, poor dear" LOL.

I have plenty of other opportunities with my slightly hippy ways. Someone asked me if the doctor forgot to cut the umbilical cord yesterday, because I said that bubby was still sleeping in our room. He's 10 weeks old for petes sake, not ten years old. People!!

glad i'm not the only one.

cobes is still in our room.. i was going to move him but he got sick so i now like to hear him breathe... he's still not outgrown his bassinet :p

and bearskin - i've taken to warning friends and family that i might turn into one of those breastfeeding hippies LOL (my ill-informed words)

note to self - next time seekrit bfeeds in my home .. I will glare at her across the room .. and tsk tsk loudly .. then I'll offer her a room away from tv.. food .. company... clocks and any confortable furniture .. and when she starts to get cranky I will simply egg her on .. (just so that she feels special) you want a fight .. I'm happy to oblige :p

ljd - that post was about how people - mainly men as that's the main population of that forum - think about breastfeeding in public. It's AMAZING the response I've received - from high praise to "why don't I just pull out a cup an pee in it, that's natural too."

veve - See you in, like, 40 minutes :p

I would love to have the oppertunity to "crack the <word which is censored on bubhub that I'm not going to try to get around by dodgy spelling>" and educate people who think that the breasts are a sexual object 100% of the time.

You are hilarious... I must admit, I probably would have loved a fight too, but was never offered one .

Throughout my entire BFing career I got nothing but, good on you, you are so great for doing this, wow, you are doing a great job ect .

If you want, you can come out with me and the dude, pretend the dude is yours, and then have a serious go at whoever is first to tell you that your baby is sooooooooooooooooooo small :D.

Aww *ruffles Luka's mo-hawk* How often do you say "Really????? I didn't notice!"

I thought I was in for it when an old lady walked by staring at me a few weeks back, but the best I got was "Oh isn't that good to see these days"

When i'm in a bad mood & bf in public, i'd love someone to say something so I could let rip, but its never happened. Not that i'd notice, normally i'm too busy looking at MJ & Laughing at her facial expressions

It's when I'm in a bad mood when I really want to pick fights! But otherwise it's just your waiting for those people who think its
'discusting' or 'inappropriate' to bf in public to say something so you can say something back :devil6:

Errr. In a word? No. :D

And for me, at least with Claire, the opportunity has passed in any case - I can no longer breastfeed her in public. I have no objection to women breastfeeding in public WHATSOEVER - but Claire gets soooooo distracted that there would be a lot of breast and not a heap of feeding, and that makes me (personally, for myself!) uncomfortable....

We'll see with the next bub though :D

I have been really fortunate to only recieve a few comments while breastfeeding in public and they have all been positive. When DD was about 1 or 2 weeks old, we were at the zoo (DS#1 was made to feel reaalllly special when his sister arrived!) and I was feeding her under a tree and a lady walked by and said, "What a beautiful spot to sit and feed your baby."
I remember feeling so comfortable and grateful to be there, right in the moment, and if the opportunity arises, I try to do the same for other mums.
These days I honestly don't think twice about who is looking/watching/scowling-I have so much going on that it doesn't even occur to me. Ah, the difference between baby #1 and baby #3! Plus, when I am out with friends, 99.9 % of them are/were breastfeeder's, so they don't flinch if they cop an eyeful of booby!:D

no it's not something I do. I bf anywhere at anytime and if anyone did comment that cop an earful but I don't go looking for a fight. I've only ever had positive comments.

What a bunch of angry ants you lot are :p .

Where are your happy hormones that are supposed to be released every time you bf?

That's probably the only time I'm not trying to pick a fight! :p I always feel a tad vulnerable with my boob hanging out. Although, if anyone did say anything negative, I would make sure they copped an eyeful of lovely creamy breastmilk - I've fine-tuned these babies to hit an eyeball at twenty paces......:D

hey seekrit .. I've had a sudden thought ..

you want a fight about breastfeedling in public .. you should just wait a few months .. whats cobey now?? three months ?? ooooh .. give it .. ooh about maybe 10 months ??? you might get a few more scowls then ..

OOOORRR .. feed him when he is old enough to stand up ... ooooher ..

I'm sure you'd get scowls feeding him when he is wearing his prep uniform ...

Love the new pic :D

I asked Chris what he thought of male lactation yesterday. He wasn't too keen.

Jen - The prep I'm going to be sending Cobes to doesn't have a specific uniform, so it'll be all good ;)
I think his highschool uniform might get a few looks.

I wa sbreastfeeding for the first 6 weeks, so I can answer for that time.
I was always up for a fight. Every man and his dog would gawk at us anyway everytime we went out. You know, two goths with a baby tend to attract a bit of attention. People would always take one look at me and then stare into the pram like they were checking for horns! It got a bit tiring beng starede at like a circus side show freak everytime we left the house, so I always let rip with anyone who dared say anything.
