Hi,
I am new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. I am a 24 year old SAHM with two young boys aged 2.5 and 5 months. My partner has been offered a job in Fremantle and it looks like we will all be moving over to WA from SA in the next 8 weeks.

I would love to meet other Mums in Perth and I am desperate for information about family friendly suburbs, doctors, activities etc. I am very nervous about the move but also very excited, everyone has said to me Perth is a beautiful place to live.

Any information or advice would appreciated.
Thanks,

Welcome (nearly!) to Perth! Unfortunately we're moving in the opposite direction to Melbourne in a few weeks so won't be able to meet you.

When you get here, pick up the free monthly newspaper called Perth Parents (or Parenting in Perth, or similar). It's stacked up or outside most grocery stores and some newsagents. It has lots of info on shops and what's going on all over Perth.

We have always lived north of the river, for 3 years in the western suburbs which are sometimes viewed as a bit posh: Mt Claremont, Dalkeith, Mosman Park. Others are Claremont, Swanbourne, Cottesloe and Nedlands. Very leafy suburbs, there are lots of parks, you're near the river and ocean, and seems to be lots of private schools in particular. Housing (to buy) is a bit pricey. You can find reasonable rentals if you look. Being in the western suburbs puts you pretty much in between Fremantle and the Perth CBD with good access to both via train.

We've recently moved further north and are now near Hilarys. I've noticed that playgrounds aren't always as nice as in the western suburbs, for example they may not be shaded and the grass isn't kept as nice, but still lots of parks and playgrounds. Housing to the north is generally cheaper than the western suburbs mentioned above. If you stay near the coast there is a direct drive down to Fremantle, but the traffic can be quite heavy. There is no direct train from teh northern suburbs to Fremantle, you'd have to switch in Perth CBD.

To be near to Fremantle you could also look south of the river, but I have no experience here.

Hi Sarah and Welcome!

I don't know if I can help you much with suburbs cause I have always lived south of Freo. Right now we are in Port Kennedy, it's about 15-20mins from Freo. My DF used to commute from here to Freo every day, and he was fine with it. We are right near the beach here, and the train line to Perth is coming in the next year or so. And real-estate (buying and renting) is pretty reasonable.
If you figure out where you will be living, let me know and I'll do my best to help you :)
GOOD LUCK!

hi Sarah

Just a quick note to say Welcome to Perth :) . I too am from Rockingham/Safety Bay ( I never realized that there were other members so close to home :D ) any way i guess you may move to Rockingham as Freo isn't to far, my hubby is at Henderson which is pretty close to Freo & it dosen't take to long to get there. I must say that Rockingham is great we have been here for over 12yrs. If you do move here(Rockingham) then let me know.

See ya
