Is kettle water safe ok to make baby milk or is

I was boiling it seperatley for months but was then told I could have just been using the kettle lol DS has had kettle boiled water for months with no probs :) hth Oh and yes I put it in a closed jug in the fridge after I have filled the bottles just to keep extra handy

I used boiled kettle water and kept it in a filtered jug so it was always handy.

Sorry, i don't mean to thread crash but this thread reminded me of a question i've had for ages - Is it ok to use bottled/mineral/spring water for bottles. I think i've seen hospitals use distilled water for bottles ? but could be wrong. Advice would be appreciated :) TIA

Boiled water is best, but in an emergency bottled is better than tap, although the recommendation is still to boil it.

Well distilled water is probably better than boiled water, but it's different to spring water. Boiled water is more than ok to use, and would be cheaper than buying distilled water. Water boiled in a kettle is fine, but I'd store it in a jug not the kettle.

As long as you let the kettle boil until it turns itself off, or to a rolling boil if it doesn't turn itself off, then it's fine.

We boil the kettle when we wash the bottles and then measure the freshly boiled water into bottles. Allow to cool then pop in the fridge.

I was told by the MW it had to be boiled for 10mins. :confused:
ETA: Yes definitely the drinking water not for bottle sterilisation - that was 15-20mins.

Kettle boiled water is fine.
Once it reaches boiling completely the time it boils for wont make much difference.
I would stick to kettle boiled and not spring/bottled water but that's just me speaking as someone from the water industry.

kettle water is fine. and it doesn't have to boil for any period of time, once anything goes over 65 degrees (and boiling is over 100) bacteria are killed.

and don't forget, most people are on treated scheme water too. (i live rural and have a windmill but our water is fine).

also, do you bath your babies? then they probably drink a few good mouthfuls during it and you don't even notice. so don't worry too much......

i've used kettle non-scheme (underground aquifer) water for both my babies and never had a problem. i don't even sterilise bottles as the hospitals say not to now.
