My DS says dad, mum, nanna, dog, woof, hi, up, no, uh oh, yum, bah bah (when he sees a sheep) and puss puss

I'm so happy to read this iykwim. (not in a bad way) DH says mum mum and dad dad but not actually to us. And he quite often yells out bub ba when he's babbling away. That's about it I think..
Are they supposed to be saying words???

Lol, apparently my 4mo niece is talking because she says 'dadadadadada'...
My almost 11mo daughter mimics sounds and says 'dadadada' when excited.
My 2yo has 5 words he uses maybe once a month, if that.

I know we're not supposed to compare our kids, but DS says hardly any words compared to some of the aforementioned bubs! He says Mum, dad (well, more like gagd), bub and MAYBE s'is (what's this). And a bit of babble mixed in there too.
And it seems like he says dad when he's happy, mum when he's grumpy/sooky and bub when he's playing :-S
My 10 1/2 m.o. doesn't say anything in particular yet. He says pa-pa, da-da, ba-ba, ta-ta and its variant te-te... that kind of "words". He babbles a lot when crawling or playing, but in his own language yet.
And, even when I'm trying from the beginning, he refuses to say ma-ma :(
My 12mth old says
Mumma
Dadda
Sisters name
Hello
Crikey lol
Dogs name
Oh ho (his version of oh ohhhh lol)
And the latest on is yeh.
He is doing rather well on the talking front but doesn't do some other things like feed himself etc, my nephew on the other hand is the same age and doesn't talk much at all but yet has been independently feeding himself for ages now, they are all so different. :)
Oppss also forgot he says nanna and pa :)

My 10mo nephew has lots. He is a talker, and it will only get worse lol. He says Mum, Dad, bub (when he sees other babies or toddlers), bug, shark, peet (feet), no (yep they're gonna have fun with that one!), poon (spoon), pish (fish), meema (grandma), the dog's name, dd's name, a version of my name, horray (If you're happy and you know it), bird, dd was the same and still talks under water with a mouth full of marbles, so I can sympathise when my brother says how draining it is.

It was at least 30 words I think, maybe more. He could say simple sentences like "I see dog". Now he never shuts up! All kids are different. The child health nurse told me they refer the child for speech therapy if they cant say about 10 words by the time they are 18 months.

At 11 months DS was saying mum, dadda, duck, bath, yes, no.
He is now almost 18 months and can say at least 25 words. He probably says 2 new words a week.
Having said that though, he didn't walk until just a few weeks ago.
In contrast, I know a lot of other kids who walked prior to 12 months and are just starting to say a few words now at 18 months.
They really are all so very different!

at 11 months my DS said "Tata" only. He only had about 5 words at 18 months! I don't expect DD (8months) to say anything anytime soon, she's not a babbler and I don't care :)
they'll all be talking the same one day.

I wouldn't worry Hun, my nephew is the same, all kids develop at different rates, I'm sure he's perfectly fine :)
DS1, cant remember, probably 3-4
DS2, He is 10mths old and has 10 words. Here, there, Mum, Dad, Nan, DS1, Booby, Ta, Star, no. He does actions for twinkle twinkle***(and says star when he does it). He Also does the actions for row row row your boat and makes sounds similar to 'row row row'.
BUT he has only just started to crawl properly.
*** He puts his hands up and waves his fingers, not the full actions (sorry if i wasnt clear, im so tired i shouldnt be writing  ) For row row he rocks back and forth.

I know my bub isn't as old as the most in this thread. But she is nearly 8 months old and says Mum/Mum-ma, Dad/Dada, Gamdad/Gamdada (Granddad), Hi, Hewlo (Hello), NanNanNan (Nanna), Yuck (2nd word she learnt), Yum, Owe (3rd word she learnt), Yaya/Yah (Yeah/Yah, my fault I saw yah all the time to her), bubbub.
She also knows Yes and No via nodding and when we say the dogs name she points to her.
And she knows the meanings to each word she says too. As she will either look at and say it or point to and say it. For instance today I said "Say bye to Granddad" and she turned away from nan, looked at him and said "Eye Gamdad".
Eye is the first time Ive heard her attempt a bye, so I havent counted it in the words.

Holy moly! DD is 8mo and barely even babbles! She just started saying dadadadada but only when she's got her fingers in her mouth for some reason. I'm not too worried though, she watches us talk intently, she'll probably just come out with a "well actually mother, I'd really prefer to have pumpkin with dinner tonight if it's not too much bother, and if you don't mind I crapped my pants a few moments ago and would much appreciate a fresh bum" lol.

Our DD is an absolute sticky beak who has to be in the know how! She has quite a good vocabulary. And its expanding rapidly. Its not bad though that your DD hasnt started chatting as much as ours. They all develop at their own rates =) Ours will just be like me. As my granddad would it "She was inserted with a grammophone at birth".

My 10.5mo DS (9mo corrected) never shuts up! My partner thinks it's because he takes after me...so it's a good thing ~ now I have someone to talk to! He started at 5mo corrected with hello, mum-mum and dada, and now says bub (a lot) taggie (his blankie), dog, up, goodbye, tucker, and just yesterday was listening to his Nanna on the phone, pushed a button and killed the call, and said 'Nanna?' for the first time. He recently only said dada for a whole week. They go through serious word-phases! Some of these words he's only said 3 or 4 times, mostly he repeats the new word heaps, though.
A couple of weeks ago he said 'Hello mum-mum,' and 'Hello Dada' (at separate times, and I found him playing on his own repeating 'Mum, dad, bub' over and over. Every day now he says something new. It's a joy. His grandpa thinks it's because both his daddy and I work from home, and he nearly always has someone talking to him.
I think my 11 month old says mumma and dadda. There's lots of babble but they're the only two that I can definitely make out.
Words she says regularly are hello, mum, dad, nana, dog, ta, and boob. Words she has said as a one off or only a few times are no, bye and wiggle. Wiggle took us all by surprise she was listening to us singing. My son never said much besides mum and dad till he was two and at four he never ever stops talking.

Don't stress if your 1 year old isn't talking. DS did not say one single word until he was 21 months. Nothing. 6 months later and now he comes out with sentences like 'look mummy I make a magnificent castle' and 'no mummy i don't want cheese. Put it inna fridge' you would never in a million years pick him as a late starter.

I forgot to mention above, that bubs is a real talker, but has taken MONTHS to really get going with the crawling. He must put all his efforts into vocalising, and less into ambulating. Seems from this thread that many kids talk early/crawl later, or crawl early/talk later, although some of your little prodigies do it all super-early!

DS 14months can say dad and mum(though he only says mum when he is upset) other than that no actual words but he does make sounds that I swear sound like words. Like sometimes it sounds like he says "ph dear" and the other day he made a big mess and I said "DS did you do that?" and he made a noise that sounded like he said "I did"
He also says "ah ah ah" when he is about to do something naughty like go near the back stairs. But no real words aside from mum and dad. He runs around most of the day shouting aah as loud as he can though.

DS days dada (dad) mama, baba (grandma in our language) bye, buba (baby) brrrm (car)
At 12 months DD could say more than 100 words. At her 18 month health check I was told she had the vocabulary of a 3 year old! It was strange to watch because she didn't walk until almost 16 months, she spent most of her time sitting there taking in the world and vocalising everything she saw but had no desire to move

Wow!!! That is insane. It would be so amazing to see a tiny toddler talking like that.
How old is she now?
My DD is 16 months and says dada, mama, nanna and booooooo for balloon and that is it!! She makes up for it though in other ways.
Mumma, Daddad, good girl, sis, poo, hello, hey.

I'm just doing an update...
My ds is nearly 15mths now and the amount of words, understanding and actions he is doing is amazing from only a few months ago.
He now knows what a dog and bird is, he points and claps, he can put the discs into his truck to make it sing, he gives high fives, he climbs on and off his little bike and can push it backwards when on it, he can say nana (banana), dog, brm brm (as in the noise a car makes). And he is still a little climber, always has been!

An update ~ last I was in here, my little guy had about 20 words. He's noe just turned one, and in the last 3weeks has been hard at work on his crawling, standing and cruising...and has hardly said a thing. Except endless rounds of Da Da, Da Da.
Just today I had a Hello, a Mum! an 'up' (to be lifted up) an aggie (his Taggie blanket) and a 'back'. And 'Book' which is 'Boo..' and lots of uh oh's (as in oh no, you're about to change my nappy, or uh oh, I dropped my rusk, etc).
So suddenly he's talking again, after silence and much cry-filled teething. Hooray!

DS 16months still only says mum and dad. He is almost saying bottle. If I ask him if he wants a bottle he says "ba ba"
He has started to shake his head no when he doesn't want something, and nod yes when he does.
While he isn't saying words yet, he understands perfectly. If I am in the living room and tell him to get something from his bedroom he will.

My DD is only 7 months but says mum, dad, nan/nanny, hi/harlluh (Hello) and yum. Sometimes it sounds like shes saying other words like 'nahh' when she crawls near things shes not allowed and when she sees herself in the mirror or any reflection she waves and says 'Hi' and hi and waves to people when they first enter the room or are leaving.
Words she says regularly are hello, mum, dad, nana, dog, ta, and boob. Words she has said as a one off or only a few times are no, bye and wiggle. This is weird I'm quoting myself lol. Dd has completely stopped using any of these words. Not even mum or dad. She gets ear infections all the time, glue ear.. and needs grommets. Does anyone know if this is why she has stopped using her words? Will this change after surgery?

I don't know if it's the reason it would happen but unused to look after a little boy who was prone to ear infections and glue ear and he didn't talk at all not even babbling, after he has surgery to put the grommets in you could see how much of an improvement they made just in his understanding of what we were saying, he started talking short after the operation too :)

Hey there BumMum, My little guy did something similar due to rampant teething (he's cracked 8 teeth in 3 months, 3 teeth in 5 days last week ~ and now his 15m molars are coming through...AAARRRGH!) and working on crawling and standing skills. He started with Mum, Dad and Bub at 5mo (2.5mo corrected) and literally went from saying a dozen of the 20 words he had to only Dada overnight. Weeks of Dada followed (all that Dada-ing nearly drove me nuts!), till just recently when he's suddenly verbally exploded again, and has added a few new words ~ 'Happy', 'Dancing' and others.
I've been looking into it, and not only can things like the ear infections put their mind on other things (not to mention prevent them hearing you and their own sounds and voice), apparently their little brains stop thinking about various skills once they are busy working on other milestones. Then they'll integrate the new things into the whole plethora of activities and the old skills (like established words) reappear. She may be focussed on the pain, as I imagine her ears would be painful, and this is stopping her ability to think about her word use.
I'm sure once the ear prob is sorted, DD will go back to using her words again. Good luck getting it treated, and I hope she is back to her old (or new!) self soon. :)

Eye is the first time Ive heard her attempt a bye, so I havent counted it in the words.
An update, she is now just 11 months and now says yes not just yeah, no, what, um, oh, know, don't, sit.
She is also learning to understand what i ask. So for example if i ask her to stand or sit she will do so, she understands ta, come here please, can i have a kiss (and will tell me no if she doesn't want to), wave and bye with actions, she hi fives, she shakes your hand, she fake Coughs when someone real coughs, she knows dance and jump. Understands the concept of picaboo with her version of the word.
She also understands some sentences and will answer. Yesterday i asked her if she wanted more lunch and instead of doing her normal mouth open she said yes.
She also understands what i don't know is and has responded with that a few times
