Brisbane Obs

Hi I have recently moved to Brisbane and have just found out I am pregnant. I am interested if anyone can recommend an Obstetrician for the Mater Private or Wesley Hospitals. I would also appreciate opinions on these hospitals as well as I am pretty much in the dark at the moment. Ta, jane

Hi Jane and welcome to Brisbane.

I had my baby at the Mater Private hospial and I can highly recommend it. There are mostly private rooms (some with double beds), nice recliner chairs and excellent midwives.

Adam was my first and I had no idea what I was doing. The midwives were always there, extremely helpful with breastfeeding and everything else. The classes we went to were well planned, relevant, and expertly delivered by the midwives. I even did an 'Exercise in Pregnancy' class Saturday mornings run by physios.

What I did was ring the hospital and ask for their list of visiting obstetricians. If you would like the name of the one I used I can send you a private message. She too, was excellent.

Welcome to sunny Brisbane. I have had my 2 boys at the Mater Private and have nothing but praise for the midwives. They all were very helpful and full of advise when asked. My OB/GYN was Dr Len Yared who's office is at Greenslopes. On my first visit to him, he made me feel at home and very comfortable (I was very nervous as it was the first time I had ever had a male doctor) and he has the best bedside manner I have ever known and would be the best doctor I have ever had.

Just in case anyone else in Brisbane (BNE) is looking for an Obstetrician, I can highly recommend Dr Nikki Whelan.
I have always had a female GP and wanted a female OB as well.
I only have the highest regard for Nikki and she delivered my baby girl with such care, professionalism and humour. She also looked after me wonderfully too! :)
Her office is based at Wickham Tce, Spring Hill but she only delivers at The Wesley Hospital, which was a great hospital too. The midwives were fantastic!
