Before tax, yes. However depending on who pays it and how it is taxed can affect how much you get in your hand. If you get paid by the FAO they don't give you the tax free threshold and you get $1002 in the hand every fortnight, where I think if you were paid by your employer you would get the tax free threshold

also it goes up, i think each july. so someone on ppl now would get more (not much though, prob less than $20) then someone when it first came out.
