View Full Version : Breastfeeding and sleeping :)
My DD is now sleeping 6 hours then 4 hours at night so I'm getting 8-9 hours sleep! I can now tell all those people who constantly tell me 'give dd formula so she sleeps' 'breast milk isn't enough for bavies' 'are you sure your milk is good enough? She feeds all the time' 'you'll never sleep while your breastfeeding' to stick it! Because my 11 week old DD loves her booby milk and is doing fantastic!
Feel free to share any other breastfeeding stereotypes you have proven wrong!

I can't believe people actually say that?! How silly! My 4.5 month old, fully breastfed DD has been sleeping through since about 6 weeks.
I know I was shocked the first five times people said it...even the midwife who done home visits said to ff at night to get sleep! Ice had strangers in the st question if i'm bf and then start saying I'll never sleep until I wean!

My DS started sleeping through from about 4 months old. Even before then, he was only waking once for a quick feed from about 9 weeks old!
I was told to quickly put him on formula at 2 weeks so that he would sleep through! I'm pretty sure a 2 week old baby is going to wake through the night no matter what he is being fed!!

No wonder the current BF stats are so low  Of course some mothers are going to believe this if they're told it often enough!!
i'm at the other end, ds is 20 months and still wakes 4 or more times per night to nurse

Subscribing, I love reading these and will help me get through when I have number 2 and hopefully have some booby success!

I heard the formula at night will help baby sleep. Well my BF baby has slept through since she was 2 months old. I am also already getting pressure to wean even though my DD is only 6.5 mths!
Etienne, you've done so awesome - I remember reading your earlier posts - you're an inspiration!
Wish I could say my DD has disproved this theory - she wakes about 4-5 times a night at the moment (though possible wonder week).
But, I'm not going to change to FF just so I can get a good night sleep - I'm happy to continue BF while I can. I'll catch up on sleep later.
BTW - that midwife was so ridiculous!
Thanks bubble. That means a lot. I don't think anyone IRL would have any idea what I went through. Except dp of course.
I think I jinxed myself though lol dd has been up every two hours the last two nights but I think it's a growth spurt also :)
Still I wouldn't give up breastfeeding for the world! :goodvibes:

I think it might be the week for it! I've been up countless times the last few nights with DS as he's unwell at the moment :(
I have to say though, I'm so glad I'm still breastfeeding as he needs fluid & comfort at the same time and bf gives both :goodvibes: Also, it's so easy that I just bring him into bed with me and feed whenever he wants so we both get some much needed sleep!
I can't wait until he gets back the poor thing! At the moment I have a big, heavy, 9mth old newborn! Poor little man :(
I second Bubblek's comment Etienne, you truly are an inspiration as you show others that while breastfeeding is hard (much harder than they tell you it's going to be!!) most of the time if you keep going it WILL get easier :) And I'm so glad it has for you!!
Hmm I was told sometimes bigger babies need formula and their mums milk doesn't satisfy them.. This was in hospital by a midwife!! But I ignored her because this is my second and I had learned about the importance of constant demand feeding in the early days to get a good supply and yep my 8 month old dd is doing fine lol she sure isn't starving that's for sure

Same lol, he sleeps in our bed when he wakes for a feed though, and he just randomly attaches through the night :)
I was also told to FF to help with sleep by loads of people. (DS was a shocking sleeper) I never did until I switched to FF at 9 months. My nipples could handle his teeth no more! Maybe it was a coincidence but that was the same time he started sleeping. I would however not use this as a reason to give up BF.
