I'm feeling a little left out here, so I'm hoping I'm not alone. I wont be having my first US for at least another 5wks, could even be 6 depending on how busy the place is.

So, have you or haven't you had an US yet?

I have only had the one U/S at 12 Weeks and everything was looking fine! I have heard my babies heart beat once too, so that was re-assuring as well! I am due for my 19th Week scan on the 10th Nov, so we will know what we are having then! So excited! Just CAN'T wait!..!

I will be about 20-21wks when I eventually have mine. I will have another one at 30wks, but having to wait for the first one is just a drag, especially when I know a lot of people here have had more than one already. I should have just had the NT scan, just so I could see the baby. :(

thats really the only reason i had it - i was worried about having a downs baby but i just really really wanted to see the baby again.

I didn't have it because I couldn't afford it.....plus I wouldn't have done anything if the tests had come back saying my chances were high. But now.....I just want to see my baby. Especially after hearing the heartbeat yesterday.

I have had a date scan and the nuchal fold scan. As you can imagin i was very glad to see there were no multiples this time! My scans were free at the hospital angelkisses, maybe enquire at your hospital, unless you are going to a private one.

Our hospital doesn't have an US machine. Any patients requiring one are sent to the radiology centre. Go figure...........

But at my next checkup, I'm going to ask my GP very nicely (get on my knees and beg) to ask them to bulk bill me. I need 2 while pregnant and the baby will need one after birth (2 if they have clicky hips like Matthew did).

oh thats Cr@p jeanette.... im sure time will fly by and you will be seeing your bubby on screen soon enough and time will go so fast after christmas we will all be holding our new babies  hehe

FourAngelKisses

****e......just called to ask how much they cost these day (when I had Matthew, they were $156 with a $50 rebate from medicare) and they are now $185 and Medicare will refund $85 of that. She did say that they bulk bill if our GP writes it on the form, so I will beg and grovel.

Also asked if they can do a 3D one and they can't. So I asked if they can put it on video or DVD and they can't do that either......so the kids will miss out. :(

I had one at 7 weeks for dating and I have my second today for the NT and my third on the 23rd November for the "Pelvis" (what it says on the form). *shrugs* They're awesome.

Jeanette that even more CR@P i had to pay for my nt and it was only $150 and i got $60 back from medicare i would be begging and grovelling too as when you go to a normal public hospital for your 19 week scan they are free so just because your hospital doesnt have a scan machine and u have to go to a scan place it should be free the govenment should have to pay me think HEHE

I think I'm being ripped off ??? My dating scan cost $185, and the NT scan (which also includes the maternal screening blood thingy) will be $340  . Haven't got a clue what I will get back from Medicare but I don't think it will be much. The 18-20wk scan (Dec 2) will be $205.

It is with the most reputable group in Sydney so that is good but I also think they saw me coming when I walked through the door ;) !

Jeanette,

Oh I am sorry hun! That is shocking that they charge you for an ultrasound! We have our Medicare card and Health Care card and we just walk in and walk out. And they do the DVD thing too here for $5.00, but apparently it isn't movie format its just images / pictures. Is there any where else that you could possibly travel to, to have an ultrasound at a hospital anywhere there?

I hope there is some place that you can get your ultrasound free of charge!... I think they should make them all free to every expectant mother!

Cheers, & Yummy Watermelon!

Jen.

My gosh Kaz, That is shocking! I know if I were have all the maternal Screening tests done it would cost me nothing! It kinda makes me angry that expectant mothers are being charged for necessary testing like screens and ultrasounds. I think Johnny Howard needs to get off his **** and help out more!

I would be angry if I had to pay for mine!...

Closest would probably be somewhere in Sydney, 3-4hrs away, lol.

Looks like I am alone...10 people have said yes, I'm the only one who has said no. How unfair, lmao.

I can understand people being charged for the 20wk scan, but I need another one at 30wks. It isn't by choice, it is to check for a life threatening condition, yet I have to pay for it. I could refuse to have it because of the cost, but then I'd be putting the baby's life at risk. Then after I get discharged from hospital, the baby will need a scan itself just to make sure that things are okay.
I think if some people get them for free, then everyone should get them for free.

I agree mate! Totally with ya there, there must be some sort of a system set up to cater for these sort of things! gggrrrrr!!!!

I just had an ultrasound for 12 weeks.

It cost me $165 and I only get back $65 (I think its ridiculous).

Next ultrasound is $199 and I get back $80.

It was a fantastic experience but I cant justify the price. My OB thinks these people are the best thats why he wants me to go there.

And yes I have a HCC but it made no difference

Hey everyone

I just thought I would share my 3D ultrasound pic I had done on tuesday.

I had a normal ultrasound and had normal ultrasound pics and then she put it on 3D.

I just cant believe my baby is only 12 weeks old in this pic and has all of its limbs and it shows just so much detail.

Its only 5.2 cm long and its just so clear. Its so cute!

So please enjoy!

Hi all, I am expecting bub #2 April 12. I have had three scans already and go for number four 24/11 (20 weeks). The first two were at a private clinic and cost $220 of which I got $90 back. The NT scan was at the hospital and free. angel_kisses9798 have you registered for the safety net? We dont have a health care card either but are registered so when our out of pocket expenses reached $500 for the year for the whole family (which they did last month) we now get 90% back. Its made a huge difference for us with all of the checks of my pregnacy and other doctor visits of family members.

I have had just the one scan done, the NT scan. We had to pay for it $90 and didnt get anything back from medicare. We also have to pay for the blood tests, when we receive the bill in the mail. We earn too much for a health care card. (not that we earn lots) We have to pay for every doctors appointment and scan that is done.
My ex husband and girlfriend were shocked that we pay for it, they get everything free (cause they are rorting the system):banghead:

Everything went great thanks for asking.
Just got back from the doctors just now and he gave me the proper results, my risk is like 1 in 5000, so i am pretty happy with that. My dates are pretty correct too.
The doctor tried to hear the heatbeat today but couldnt get it, but told me not too stress about it as i am only 13 weeks. He asked me if i have felt it move yet and i said i'm pretty sure i have. Sometimes i feel like a first time mum again.

Me too. My hubby and I both work fulltime - on fairly average wages - but others seem to think that equates to being rich!! Far from it!

I noticed alot of you have your scans as your picture, I didn't get anything from my scan to take home it was all put on disk and I don't have the software to open the disk on my PC. So I don't know why they gave me the disk.

Anyway, did they just give you a printout or did you have to ask for it?

Even though I don't have a referral yet, I called radiology and booked a scan in for 11am on November 8. Fingers crossed my GP can get them to bulk bill me. I see her at 9:40 that morning, so will get the referral then. I soooooooooooooo can't wait. I am leaning more towards not finding out the sex, I'll probably change my mind when I get there, lol.

You're lucky, I get no free ones. I have to pay for 3.....$185 each time with an $85 rebate. :( If I didn't need them to check the baby's kidneys, I'd be opting to have none.

I am really puzzled as to why some people get billed for ultrasounds and some don't??? I go to our local public hospital and I get charged nothing, no-one has ever mentioned any fees, or anything. I just handed my medicare card and health care card over and that was that!..

ive wondered the same thing.. i know when i signed the consent form at qld xray it does say sumthin about only 2 medicare covered scans in 1st & 2nd trimester and 1 in the 3rd i think... i could be a bit wrong but its sumthin like that..
anyways.... im goin to see if i can get my scan thru the hosp and not pay.... i dont mind paying the $$$.. as this scan is important just to make sure bubs has all the right bits in the right spot etc....

out of the three scans ive had at radiology places ive only paid for one and that was an emergency and i went to a different place to my normal place.
At the normal one i go to for some reason my gp has an agreeement that all her paitents get bulk billed - im not complaining.

but theres just another example of some people getting it for free and others having to pay.

FourAngelKisses
26-10-2006, 05:29 PM
You'd think it would be up to the department of health to decide whether or not places can charge for scans or not. At least that way it would be fair.
If everyone had to pay, then I wouldn't have an issue with it.
