Not sure where this post should go but was wanting to know if ppl would buy a smaller sized cot if there was one on the market not sure if there are any on the market.
Average size cots are about 130cm long and 76cm wide. some children don't feel as snugg once moved from their bassinet and take a while to get use to this. If there was a small cot on the market that was 95cm long and 65cm wide that complied with australian standards would you buy it and have it instead of a bassinet and the child can stay in it heaps longer and it may even be small enough to be in some parents rooms and easier to move around.
your views would be great
Thanks

If there was a smaller cot.. i don't think it defeats buying a bassinette because cots aren't mobile no matter how small they are.
With the transition into the cot most ppl either put the bassinette basket into the cot for a few nights or buy one of those snuggle soft padded beds for an easier trasition KWIM.
If smaller cots were on the market i don't think i would buy one but thats just me because i see no need for one.
It might be a brilliant idea for some but IMO it's just an extra peice of furniture to buy thats really not needed. Don't forget that cots are expensive and eventually their will need to be a transition from the smaller cot to a bigger or 'normal' sized cot.

I would buy one for sure my son was in a bassinette then a cot and by 20 months was in a toddler bed he was only in his bassinette for 8 weeks so if there was the smaller cot it would have saved me from buying a bassinette.

I wouldn't buy one. My kids were never in a bassinette and only in the cot for 8-12mths tops before going into a single bed. They were also really tall kids and I think they'd feel cramped in anything too small.
But I can see why it would be good for some people.

I would buy one saves buying a bassinette that they grow out of to fast and then they go into single beds around 18 months so it would be great for me.
I wouldn't buy one either. Our cot was almost $1000 and converts to a toddler bed. We bought it for the long term, not just for the first 2 years. E is now 92cm long, so would have grown out of the smaller cot about 6 months ago. I estimate that we'll have to get a proper single bed in about 6-12 months at the rate she's growing!
some children don't feel as snugg once moved from their bassinet and take a while to get use to this.Eloise went straight into the cot (awwww... (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v228/perrinfamily/33f3402a.jpg)) , but we moved her into her pram bassinet (inside the cot) for a little while when she wasn't sleeping well due to a bit of reflux (elevated one end slightly etc). It didn't really take long to settle her back into the cot from the bassinet, maybe about a week of unsettled sleep.

Thanks for your replies the reason I started this poll was because my husband is a cabinet maker and was asked by 2 different families to make cots they requested the cots be smaller then the average size but I guess they won't take off if he makes more.
Thanks everyone.

If he was to do it, he'd have to make sure they meet safety standards (do they even make mattresses that size??). Maybe he could avertise them and make them on request.

There is actually a smaller cot on the market, I think it is called the space saver cot, they are available in white and baltic stain wood and also metal. We had the wood ones at the day care centre i worked at.
