View Full Version : I have a question

I am a 21 year old male who has to be circumcised for medical reasons.

My question is this:

Do girls care about the look of the penis if you are circumcised in later life as apposed to being circumcised at birth where there is less visable scaring? I just wondered because I am very worried about having the op for this very reason. I am from a place where all my friends are uncut - so I dont really have anyone to ask about it.

Thanks a lot,
darko

Hey there,
I dont think it would make any difference in the look whether it was done at birth to now,
And any girl that would comment on it isnt really worth it, im sure they arent gunna notice unless u tell them.
:hugs: best luck to u

darko1,

Sexual preferences are very individual, but people tend to be most comfortable with what they're used to. If your circumcision is medically necessary, than it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

That being said, many men are circumcised unnecessarily by cut-happy doctors without fully exploring the alternatives/less invasive treatments first. I only mention this because I've read posts from men in the past who were circumcised for medical reasons and later learned that the problem could have been currected without surgery, or with far more minor procedure.

Phimosis is a notorious one. Studies have shown that the vast majority of cases respond well to a topical steroid cream, and if that doesn't work there are stretching exercises, or dilation under a local anesthetic. If nothing else works, they can even perform a small, dorsal slit under a local and that usually remedies the situation. Complete circumcision for phimosis is rarely necessary. If the problem involved any other part of the human body, amputative surgery would generally be considered a last resort.

Circumcision is permanent, so just make sure if you are at all reluctant that you research your condition and all the treatment options thoroughly. I hope you find the solution that's right for you.

My doctor said that in my case it is necessary, he had some big word for my condition - yes, it is phimosis related.

Anyway, I went privately when consulting the doctor. For some reason in my head I associate private with good which is maybe wrong. I asked about all the alternatives such as steriod treatment and dorsal slit? or at least a half-cut (not too sure as to those being the same but I think they are sort of). He ruled them all out and said that he would refuse to go ahead with anything but a circumcision due to the condition I have.

I've asked some questions before on the net in various forums and most aren't helpful. I understand that being cut is a big decision, but they usually just list the complications and cons. Never too many pros in there.. heh. I just wish there was a simple answer. I've lived with this for some time now and I need to get it sorted. To top it off I can't tell my family because I'm embarassed of the fact, so here on the net it makes things a little easier to talk about it.

Anyway thanks for answering my question it helped me some :)

Just thought I would let you know that to me and a lot of other woman, it matters more what a guy is like on the inside not the outside. If you love someone it shouldn't matter what any part of them looks like.

I have my :fingerscrossed: for you that everything goes ok.

We are all here for you.

Sending lots of :hugs: your way.

P.S. My son had to be done at the age of 4 years for medical reasons, so I understand that if there is a medical reason then you have no choice.

Stay strong.

To be honest, the only penis I've ever seen, besides my sons, is DH's. But it doesn't matter to me what it looks like. Like angcaltam, what matters to me is on the inside of the person. If a girl cares what you look like down there, then she probably isn't worth knowing.

I'm with the other girls! Its what you are on the inside that counts!! And just to put a little joke into it a penis is ugly no matter what!!!:D

Goodluck with your op and I hope everything goes well for you.

If women were concerned about the attractiveness of a man's penis, we would have died out as a species long ago.

I think that a partner would be more concerned that you are not in any pain rather then whether you are circ'd or uncirc'd. I know that would be my first concern. I couldn't care less what it looked like. Still does the same job from my side of things! :D As adults I really don't think that the majority of women would reject you on the grounds you were circ'd.

Well Darko I am in the cut category of men. Lucky me as I was done when I was born. To answer your question about appearance, no one will be the wiser trust me on this. In fact some girls find it a turn on to see that little helmet instead of seeing a foreskin. Also it is far easier to take care of when in the shower. No dirt or whatever can get caught in the folds of the skin which in turn cause infection which is probably the reason why you are having the op. I suggest you have it done and if you have any issues ask your gp or doctor about it. From what I have heard it is a straight forward op and you won't be out of action for long.

Well Darko I am in the cut category of women. Lucky me as I was done when I was born. To answer your question about appearance, no one will be the wiser trust me on this. In fact some guys find it a turn on to see that little button instead of seeing some labia. Also it is far easier to take care of when in the shower. (Just thought it might be a more interesting read if the genders were reversed, especially since hoodectomy, labiaplasty, and vaginal rejuvination are growing increasingly popular cosmetic surgeries for women.)

actually out of action can be 6 weeks to 3 months depending.

There is no such thing as a minor surgery, As an adult you will require stitches and healing time and pain medications.

Its hard when you want to express an opinion and you get ridiculed on here!

***reference to modified text removed***

If normal female genitals were being referred to in similar terms and female genital cutting being suggested for similar reasons (so dirt cannot get "caught in the folds of the skin", causing infections) I think most of us would react with a combination of incredulous laughter and outrage.

This is SO true! Goodluck with the OP and also just wanted to add that any girl worth her salt will love you no matter what your willy looks like. :hugs:

Mother Nurture,

You have your opinions and I have mine. We both have our reasons to why we have our opinions and I definatly respect yours. You obviously feel very strongly about your opinions as I do mine.

I enjoy reading and learning more about every issue be it circ, immunisation, cc or attachment parenting. We will never see eye to eye on this issue.

This thread has degenerated into a bit of an argument among some hubbers. Please keep to the topic of the OP, darko has asked for assistance, lets give him some in a positive, supportive manner. Any further off topic posts will be removed.

Cheers

LOL!!!!

oh chelle..... that is too funny.....

...... and I love a guy for who he is rather than his "parts" - all the past guys I've been with I haven't really cared about their penis to be honest - some were circ'd and some weren't but I really wasn't fussed. Depends on the person driving it :D

My DH was done when he was 41, it was his personal choice as our boys had balanitis phimosis and were booked to be done a few months afterwards, so he did it to look like his boys (a bit of a reverse on doing it to sons to look like dad!)....

He has noticed it is different (more sensitivity), but I personally dont really find any difference....sorry if tmi....

as the other girls have said - it really is all about what you are like as a person......ie, your quality, not your quantity ;)

Oh how true!

What women prefer is personal preference, personally i much rather them 'cut'. I have only had 1 uncut partner (and about 6 cut) all up. I like the look of cut and the idea of it being clean (ok yes i know uncut can also be clean to if looked after properly). Having said that I certainly wouldnt choose a partner based on his manhood being intact or not! As Bigglet said you love a person for being them not just for their parts!

But seriously getting back to the original question. I doubt anyone will be able to tell if it was done at birth or later in life. I highly doubt anyone will be holding a magnifying glass to it and studying it! and trust me even when we are 'down there' we are not really looking at every square cm (or is that inch! ) of it!

Good luck :hugs:
