Hi Annb
I had to buy a christening present on the weekend. I know with my girls, they got a lot of silver stuff, that pretty much stays in the cupboard, because there is nowhere to display it.
I ended up buying a really nice children's book, and I wrote in the cover that it was for the christening, so he will be able to remember each time he reads it (when he's grown up of course)
One good silver thing though- is a cylinder to keep the baptism certificate in.

How about a pretty photo album for her to put in photos of her christening. The other day I found the most gorgeous little white photo album with a miniature handmade pink dress on a hanger on the front of it. Was only $25 and would make a gorgeous christening present.

For Blair's Christening, we received lots of gifts, some great and useful, and some not so useful!

The top things we got were:

new cot blanket (pure wool)
an engraved pewter name plaque for his door that has a slider (for when he's older) that says either 'I am in' or 'I am out'. Very cute!!
A pewter photo frame that opens (much like a locket) to store a photo CD behind (Awesome!!!)
a musical star that projects on the roof whilst playing music
gift cards for Target (great to help 'fill in the gaps' of what you need). VERY much appreciated!!!!

Some things we appreciate......... but have yet to use :o :

a huge polar fleece AFL Hawks blanket
a gold name bar
a wooden sand timer
several bunnykins ceramic(?) plates/bowls/cups

Everyones hearts were in the right place though, and of course any gift is always fine. In future, I will be giving gift cards to new mums I know as I know there is always those things you have your eye on, but just can't justify spending your money on (esp. if your budget is as tight as mine  ). That way, they also get the fun of spending their gift card too!

I think a gift card or a book - Books would be my first choice.

When my DD got baptised she recieved a couple of beautiful musical horse carousels. They are made out of ceramic and a more of an ornamental thing to sit on a shelf but they are a lovely keepsake. The ones my DD received I have put on the shelves she has on the wall in her bedroom and they look so pretty sitting on there. You should be able to buy them from any jewellers. I have noticed before that some jewellers sell them at different prices so maybe check out the jewellers that are having a sale at the moment.
