Just curious ...

My little man (Hamish) has recently started solids. He is 23 weeks old. He has tried rice cereal (both plain and with stewed apple), and two different mashed vegetable "creations". He has been having his solids at 10:00am, and all is going beautifully.

My question is ... what now ??

As a rough guide, Hamish wakes between 6:00am and 7:00am, and has a 240ml bottle. He then has his solids at 10:00am, with a 120ml bottle. At 2:00pm, he has a 180ml bottle, and at 6:00pm, he has a 240ml bottle. He then has a roll-over feed between 10:00pm and midnight of 120ml.

So, what I really want to know is ... should I be trying to make this 10:00am meal a little later, and turning it into lunch ? Should he be having more solids in a day (ie, should he have lunch and dinner ?).

Today, everything went pear-shaped ... he woke at 8:00am (14hrs sleep ... not bad ... wish I could do that), and had a bottle. He then had his solids at midday, a bottle at 4:00pm, and a bottle at 8:00pm. Think I might not do the roll-over feed tonight ... could be interesting !

Anyway ... any advice is welcomed ... and appreciated !!

Thanks in advance.

i started my bub on solids around 4months... against nurses advice but i think i knew what was best for him... at first i gave him normal breast feeds and cereal for morning tea.... then i increased it to cereal for morning tea and around 4.30 vegies.... with normal breast feeds.... and then he is now (6months) on cereal for breakfast after a breastfeed, a 2 hour sleep... breast feed.... yogurt and some small cubes of fruit... strawberries, rockmelon, kiwifruit... for lunch... another sleep... usually an hour.... then a breast feed and around 5 i give him vegies, bath, breastfeed and bed... i found this helped and he also started sleeping longer during the night... hope that helps for you!
