Bubba has had his bottom teeth for a while and we haven't had a problem. Now he has got 2 top teeth, not the ones directly in front but the 2 to the sides. Is that cross cutting?, anyway now I have recieved my first bites.....ouch quite painfull. and I have taken him off each time and firmly said "no, no biting mummy". He's been good the past few days with minimal bites but this morning while feeding it feels like his teeth are grating on my nipples just while he is sucking. His top teeth are still coming down too. My question to all who have been through this is:
does it stop?
how do you go with the pain while feeding?
Is there anything I can do?
TIA

I'll be watching this thread. Sarah cut her first tooth yesterday and she's a BF baby! I think I'll be wondering the same things very soon!

Its painful at first but they do stop biting. MJs now got 12 teeth & still bf. The only time I get bitten is if she falls asleep & start to slip of the breast

Yes, it does stop:thumbsup: They will eventually learn that biting isn't on. Ozzy went through that stage, he now has all his baby teeth and the only time I found he would bite was when he was teething as he was trying to get used to the new teeth/tooth;)

Tia, Ouchie!

All the elderly people in my family have been going on about this latley and I don't think that I should be listening!! These nipples aren't that tough- I seem to have many tears and cuts, even when attachement is spot on. Ariene doesn't have teeth yet, but I'm actually very nervous about the whole teeth/b'feeding thing.. I was thinking that the urge to bite is quite powerful and involuntary and that's what has me worried

I'll be watching this thread!

I have always been told that if you keep feeding from those sore nipples etc they will heal 10 times quicker as the milk will be surrounding the nipple every suck baby takes and in turn the milk will heal the nipple quicker (magic stuff that milk is)

I listened to that advice and it always helped me;)

Well that must be it cause he was doing really well till this morning and that's how I noticed this 4th tooth had broken through.

Although it's not like he's really biting, it's more like the pressure/grinding if that makes any sense.

Thanks for the replies more are still welcome :D

Hi,
Once my little girl's top teeth came through, I also began to have that 'grazed' feeling and my nipples started bleeding - something I had been lucky enough not to experience in the early days!! (I developed a lot more sympathy for other mummies with early days BF pain!!)
I tried different positions which did help - football hold - so her teeth put pressure on a different part of the nipple, letting the damaged bit heal.

But then my DH pointed out that she was stretching my nipple - pulling back on it - as she sucked, and so her teeth pushing in on the taut skin would eventually make it tear.
Ie a positioning issue. So I pushed her head into my boob more while feeding and hey presto! The pain went!! And I have had no problems since. Wish I'd worked this out months earlier!!!
It only took a day or so of having to hold her head closer, and then she did it on her own with no prompts.

So this worked for me. I was always quite aware of positioning, I thought, but I guess over the months pre-teeth, she and I both became less vigilant about it!
Hope this helps and good luck!

Isn't the pain horrid!! When teething your bubbies saliva and everything changes and the saliva is more acidy. So usually I find that has more to do with pain when the bubba is teething!! However if you have a biter and I have had one then you will grimace everytime they go on and off..

My DD use to bite and cut right through the skin, blood pouring out which made it very sore to feed off the next time. The one time dd actually did get growled for doing it was when I was feeding her, and she looked into my eyes and got a devilish smile and ouch then DD laughed.... My mum was sitting there and seen the whole thing and nanna told her off!!

As for DS I have had nothing but agony with every tooth, he has 16 teeth now and has had them for 6mnths so I have been fine for the last 6mnths. Although I have had pain from his teething DS never has biten me just for the sake of fun,... I might go and touch some wood!!
