hey girls,
you just reminded me of a question i wanted to ask & forgot to post the thread...
has anyone had a tatt done while preggas?
its only the risk of blood infection why they dont recommend it isnt it?
but these days i would think most would be obeying laws & as long as i had proof of their sanitation etc,
do you think its okay?
is there any other reason that im not aware of, why not when preggas?
i reeeeally wanted to get one done today on my birthday together with DH...

Well, getting the tattoo wont affect the baby (if thats what u mean?) as long as the tattooist is following correct procedure. The tattoo introduces ink pigments just below the skin, but that is where they stay and so they will not affect the baby. The only concern you need to be worried about if you get one is that the needles should be disposable and all the equipment properly sterilized. Because you can risk getting hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis. And that would effect the baby IYKWIM?

yeh thanx SJ..
i already have one, but when DH & i had made plans to get them done now & than we remembered...
i presumed the contamination was the only reason, but thought maybe i wasnt aware of something else...
if i do go ahead, i will be paying much more attention to detail of the location & practices etc than last time... thats for sure!
they'll prob'ly want to charge me extra for all the questions i might ask?!:o

Your tatts are so pretty! I would love to get one, but I am a bit chicken about the pain. I've heard that it hurts less if you get it done on an area that has lots of padding? Is this right? Would someone mind describing the pain of getting a tatt?
(sorry to hijack!)

Here's my tatts...my first the monkey (http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g177/Brions_Mum/Picture2.jpg), and then the tribal design (http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g177/Brions_Mum/Picture.jpg). I have a few more that I want to get done, hopefully will be getting a cple more when I go on hols this yr.
As for tatts n pregnancy - the reason pregnant women can't get tatts is because when you are having one your body can go into mild shock - which can cause harm to the mother and the baby. Also ther้'s the risk of infection too. (Both bacterial and HIV)
Getting a tatt is ok as long as you can handle a prolonged burning/stinging sensation.

It's kinda like hot scraping feeling, sounds awful but because it is quite a constant pain you sort of zone out after awhile and then it's not so bad.
Lets just say if you can go through labour and birth you can handle a tattoo!!!
I have a high pain threshold though it might be worse for others so I'm just speaking from my own experience.:D

Well, I *thought* I had a high pain threshold until I experienced a posterior labour lol! I screamed EPIDURAL for about an hour

I can sympathise, I had a posterior baby too!!
Having a tat doesn't even come close to that kind of pain, so you'll be fine!!
I had an epi after 15hours of labour, so I'm not all that tough!!
Just think carefully about what you want and where you want it. I have a couple of others that I think I might get removed as I got them when I was 17 and I don't like them anymore, or rather I don't like their postion (a black celtic band on my bicep:eek: ). It looks a little out of place on me seeing as I am a quiet little blonde girl!!
I loved getting a tattoo.... I wont say it didnt hurt, but its a kind of pain that isnt throbbing, but a kind of stinging pain... feels sorta like someone getting a pin/needle and constantly scrapping your skin with it (which sounds horrible - but it wasnt lol).
It's that kind of pain that makes you want to go back for more (well so I think) - Kind of like childbirth :D
I think the worst part was when I walked outside and the air hit it - then it really stung!
I couldnt stop looking at it for a few days in the mirror - its up on my shoulder blade. Sometimes when I'm getting into the shower and I glance into the mirror, I forget that its there.
