Just quick question...

Do you usually make up bottles of formula ahead of time & keep them in the fridge, or do you make them just as you need them? I am still a bit new to bottle-feeding and the books I've read say you can make them up to 24 hours ahead of time, but on the tin it always says 'feed immediately' . Does it depend on the brand?

I thought that you had to give it to your baby as soon as you made it!!

Im sorry im not much help, but i dont think if you made juniors bottle while he was asleep and put it in the fridge, so you had it ready when he wakes, i dont think it is going to effect the formula in any way!!

Maybe ring the maufacturer, and simply ask them! Cant hurt!
Good luck!!

With DS1 & DS2 the tin said that you could have it made and in the fridge for 24 hours but the Formula that we have DD on says use within 12 hours so I have no idea.

What I do is I have the water in the bottle in the fridge ready and the Formula measured out in the Formula dispenser that I've got and when DD wants a bottle I heat the water up and then add the Formula and done.

Good luck.

Actually we used to make up a 24 hour supply in a jug ready to go thinking that that was being efficient.

But honestly now............I just always keep a jug of cooled boiled water on my bench, tip some into a bottle, microwave it & then add my scoops.........and we have found this much easier - no need to keep washing the bottle we were using for premade formula. Plus I think it's also better not to nuke the actual formula - less risk of destroying all the good nutrients in it. Also, there's no wastage if you have been out all day and haven't used what was sitting made up in the fridge if it's gone past 24 hours.

I've bottle fed all 3 of my bubs and I have always made up 6 bottles at once (this is what bubs drinks in 24 hrs) and all mine have not had any probs. I just find it heaps quicker and easier to do it this way.

I have 6 bottles and once all of them are used, I wash and sterilise them and fill them up. I pre-mix all the bottles and store the in the fridge, before DD is due for a feed I'll take a bottle out of the fridge, she doesn't like it straight out of the fridge cold, so I stand the bottle in a bowl of hot water to take the chill off. When I made them as I went along, it was so time consuming - I seemed to be constantly at the sink! I think it's ok to pre-mix as long as you put the bottles in the fridge. I also find that the formula doesn't mix too well if the water has cooled right down. I prefer to boil the water, cool to a just warm temperature and then mix it up.

You are fine to make them up all at once as long as you put them in the fridge and use them all up within 24 hours. I organise the bottles at night. If I am going to be at home the next day I make up all the bottles then. If I am going to be out, I make up some (for b/fast and dinner), and just put the cooled boiled water in the others for going out. I premeasure the amount of formula I will need for those bottles into an avent powder dispenser, and leave both of these in the nappy bag overnight. That way, when it comes time for a feed while we are out, if I don't have access to a microwave I am able to still make up the bottle and DD will drink it at room temperature.

Also, keep the made-up formula bottles at the BACK of the fridge on one of the shelves, as this is the coldest part. Don't put them in the door racks.

 I always make up bottles for the next day before I go to bed, so they are all ready for the day ahead. Like someone else said if I am planning on going out I just make up bottles with water and take a formula dispenser with me.

Everynight I used to make up six bottles and put them in the fridge (at back on along the side of fridge).

And then continue this process everynight.

I have done that for both my ff daughters and they seem to be OK.

I make up my bub's bottles for the day and have them in the fridge and then just warm it up when you need it thay keep for 24hr when made up..
The only one you can't make up and but it in the fridge is if your baby is on thickened formula or it will be like clag glue...

My little man likes room temperature bottles which for me is just so much easier.

I wash them all at once, fill them with cooled boiled water (from a glass container I keep aside and top up as I make coffee) and put them on the bench or in the nappy bag. I usually fill up a powder dispenser with measured doses because I'm too lazy to count it out each time and because you never know how busy you'll be and then I just pour it in and shake as we need.

I am new to bottle feeding but I have started to keep bottles of boiled water ready with the right amount of water in the fridge then all I have to do is put in the formula and heat. I have a flask constantly filled with boiled water and containers filled with the correct amount of formula.
All I do when DD is hungry is tip the formula into the bottle of pre-prepared water and put it into the flask. The whole process takes about 2 minutes.
It also helps when I go out as I do not have to worry about keeping the bottles cold.
It only takes me about 10 minutes every night to steralise and get the water in the bottles ready and I don't have to worry about the formula going bad.
I know two other mums who do it this way too and it saves both worry and time.
Hope this helps.

I make mine up to 24 hours in advance. Sometimes I'll make up three bottles, and then I'll make up another three 12 hours later. You'll find your own rhythm - just make sure you use sterile equipment to make them up.

We put the bottles of boiled water in the fridge each night, mainly so they are out of the way. We then add formula to the water at each feed.
This seems to work for us, although hubby and I have both lost count and had to start again. ( I know it's only counting to 4! but at 6.30am its easy to lose track )

Thanks very much for your replies everyone - I had decided I was going to make the bottles up ahead of time, but it turns out ds has reflux so we have had to switch to thickened formula, which can't really be made up beforehand....so I'm just preparing the bottles of water ready to add the powder as its needed, which is actually working quite well.
