Hi all,
Just wondering what time you had to begin fasting from, and when you were actually operated on... I received my Pre-admission paperwork, and it says that my operation is scheduled for 'PM' and to start fasting from 7am, arrive at hospital 11am. I dont know how long I'll be able to go without food   !
you have to fast for a c sect?? ok i change my mind now:D
Mine was scheduled for 9am and I couldn't eat or drink from 10pm the night before. I didn't end up getting out of surgery until past 1:30pm and then didn't eat until late that night. I was STARVING!
With my EmCS, I woke up in the morning and went to the hospital before even thinking about breakfast. They kept me fasting all day and after bub arrived at 5.40pm, I was more worried about getting something to eat than where bub was:laughing: (she was in the nursery with DH).

With #1 it was about 3hrs... emerg csect
With #2 it was 4 hrs emerg csect
With #3 scheduled csect it was from 7am until my csect at 1pm.. I had gestational diabetes though and my levels were dropping fast so they got me in as fast as they could and i went from 3rd on the list to 1st cs of this

was that public??
do you get to choose a rough time if you have a private elective?? or is it just a waiting list?
I went public elective and I got to choose when I could have it. My ideal day was already completely booked but the next available day I could pick whatever time I wanted.
I think public or private it will depend on how late in the pregnancy you book in and how busy they are at the time. I was 36 weeks when I booked in and had the bub two weeks later.

My surgery was scheduled for 8.30 am, and I wasn't allowed to eat past 10pm the night before. I didn't have the surgery until after 10am though, and DD arrived at 10.55am.
I was too nervous to be hungry...but I was a little thirsty. Luckily though, the drip seemed to fix that...I didn't feel so bad after the drip had been in for a bit. I had a few sips of drink at the end of the day after DD was born, but i kept throwing it all up...so I didn't eat anything until the next morning.
:)
after 2 em cs without any fasting, due to the fact it was EMERGENCY
i had an ele cs this time and thought ok....
i was booked for 8 am...had to be in at 6.30am- woke up at 5am- STARVING and had 2 weetbix- BAD CHOICE....:(
i had to wait another 2 hours.....the ana. was a bit cross with the docs, as NOBODY told me i had to starve for ages...I WAS PREGNANT...and ALWAYS hungry LOL
around 5 hours would be ok i guess.... so i had the weetbix at around 5 ish and they prep. me then at around 10 ish - bubby was out 11.30am
good luck
I fasted from 10pm for a 9am c-section the next day. To be honest food was the last thing on my mind, I didn't even notice not eating. Too nervous beforehand I think and too excited/overwhelmed/happy after to notice or to even think about food Had a light meal that night and back to normal the next day.:)
My C-section was around 3.00pm and I had to fast from about 8.00am if I recall correctly. I was a bit nervous and couldn't eat my toast for breakfast and as a result I was STARVING by the time I was due to go in - which was a good thing as it distracted me from being nervous! And I was actually really, really thirsty as well as it was a pretty hot day - I was asking for a drink of water in recovery but wasn't allowed any until I got back to my room and iced water had never tasted so good. I think I ate some sandwiches later that night as soon as they let me and I felt fine - and I also had a sip of champagne with my family to celebrate!
i am going public. fast from midnight. no drinks after 4am. go to hospy 6.30. wait around till its my turn. could be all day !!!!! more worried about being thirsty than eating.

Oh how I wish I had a c-section! I had a horrible "natural" birth which was 31 hours long and so intense that there was no food or drink for that whole time! Don't worry you will be able to do it.
Well, They told me to fast from 4pm till 7.30am the next morn which is when i was booked in! And that included and fluids, no water or anything! It nearly killed me.
So i got there at 6.30am and waited, and waited and waited! They had 2 emergencies come in so i didnt actually have my c section till 1pm!!! I had had nothing to eat or drink for 21 hours!
I remember being so thirsty i would swill my mouth out with water and have to spit it out, but i sooooo wanted to swallow it!
Needless to say, the first thing i said to DH when i was in the recovery room was GO DOWNSTAIRS AND GET ME A SUBWAY NOW!!!!
