It has taken DD just over a week since she first started crawling to be able to now lift her knees high enough to move from our sunken lounge room so that she can access the rest of the house!!!!! My problem now is how to teach her to go back down to the lounge safely!!!! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I also read somewhere that you can make knee pads out of household items to protect their knees when they are first crawling. Can't remember what was suggested however. Any help would be appreciated.

A family member used to have a split level beach house which we used. I taught DD to back down the steps, lowering her leg to the step below, and then swapping legs.

She got quite good at it quite quickly.

I taught my son to go down stairs backwards, just by letting him see me do it first, and then helping him do it. Just one leg at a time and then one hand at a time aswell. It didnt take ds very long to pick it up and certainly made life easier for me!

And i wouldnt worry too much about knee pads. We have hard tiles and at one stage i was thinking knee pads would be a good idea to protect his little knees, but they are tougher than we realise.
