View Full Version : A couple of crawler questions
It has taken DD just over a week since she first started crawling to be able to now lift her knees high enough to move from our sunken lounge room so that she can access the rest of the house!!!!! My problem now is how to teach her to go back down to the lounge safely!!!! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I also read somewhere that you can make knee pads out of household items to protect their knees when they are first crawling. Can't remember what was suggested however. Any help would be appreciated.
A family member used to have a split level beach house which we used. I taught DD to back down the steps, lowering her leg to the step below, and then swapping legs.
She got quite good at it quite quickly.
I taught my son to go down stairs backwards, just by letting him see me do it first, and then helping him do it. Just one leg at a time and then one hand at a time aswell. It didnt take ds very long to pick it up and certainly made life easier for me!
And i wouldnt worry too much about knee pads. We have hard tiles and at one stage i was thinking knee pads would be a good idea to protect his little knees, but they are tougher than we realise.
we have a split level house and ds taught himself how to negiotiate the steps lol although he didnt really venture to the restof the house till he was around 9 months and he was cruising round at that point. but he just slows down and goes slowly backwardsover the step lol it takes a little while but he gets there:)
he is still learning how to get up them hehas a bit of trouble with the steps to our frount door lol
my pe\arnets have a lowered lounge and jake goes down it forwards and slids his legs after him so he doesnt hit his face lol
you can buy key pads from stores if its easier
