View Full Version : What do you think ?

I was thinking that maybe we should make a thread specifically for cloth n00bs or parents who need just the basic info of cloth to help them decide.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but we are currently getting alot of noob threads atm based on basic/simple info and whatnot. So instead of having to repeat ourselves maybe we can just direct them to the specific thread. We could include a few links that provides other cloth nappy info and maybe a few stores.

So i guess we can alocate someone to start the thread and then close it then of course if the n00bs have more questions based on cloth nappies they can then start a thread. If anyone has anything to add to the thread then that person can PM the thread starter asking to add the info, then once again close it. I hope this makes sense

So does this sound like a good idea ? and who wants to be the thread starter ? or shall we vote to asign someone to start it ?

Opinions please people.

*I'll put a poll up*

I like the idea and I tend to not answer many of the Noob threads because I have done before:o My only comment is though, that it is nice to start your own thread with specifics if you can't be bummed searching through threads and threads of irrelevant info IYKWIM ??

I totally know what you mean. This is also the reason why i don't respond to many of the n00b threads aswell.

With the thread there will obviously be alot of info on it so there isn't much searching to be done. Of course they will originally start a thread saying they want to or thinking about converting and need info, but then someone can post the 'cloth noob info' thread link for them to read through and if there is something they dont quiet understand then post their questions KWIM ?

Actually i think there should be a few specific type threads in regards to cloth.

One about the benefits so environmental, monetary etc
One about care, washing etc
One about the different types of cloth & the benefits as well as any pros & cons in regards to what use mums have found.

Thats all i can get my mind to think up just yet but then if you ask one of the mods to "sticky" these certain threads its then helpful for anyone with any questions to enter this area & see that there is some great info for them to read through straight up before asking for any other advice iywkim !

Anyways great idea Lauren

This is a great idea! I'm a newbie and wanting info about cloth (mostly cause of the environmental bonuses) and searching and scrolling through past closed threads can become tedious and tiresome - especially when (as murphys law would state) everything you find is irrelevant.

Great idea Karnifool!

sounds like a good idea.

but how about putting a link to www.ozclothnappies.org in the threads/sticky, given that all the information everyone is after really is already there!!!

The stickys are an awesome idea! It also keeps them high up on the threads so people cant miss them

Allyoo - I agree, we should have a few threads based on your suggestions.

sheesh .. you plan to have a quiet evening in front of the tv .. then your ears start burning :p

ok - clothie addicts .. can you give me a night or two (I DO work too you know :p) .. I'll chat to the other mods and see what we come up with ... I dont think the sticky idea will be an issue .. they occur fairly freqently - although they would have to be productive threads ..

(oh .. and Mor - we would never ever leave ozcloth off the list .. its where I learnt my info :D)

I shall return shortly- with a few more ideas and definates!!

Great idea Lauren, makes it much easier for the newbies who ask basic q's, like myself, to find some reviews and feel a bit more confident in our purchasing- or at least understand the basic diff's b/w nappy types and what to expect when using cloth.

I think it's a great idea! Now i need to apoligize because i just started one of those threads that you all dread:o I posted it then went back and found this one...ooops!:o

This is definitely what all us starting out on cloth need. Great idea, once again!:D

ok clothies .. sorry this has taken so long for me to start .. work has been really full on this week

ok - I've chatted to the other mods .. and the feedback has been positive .. :)

I"m thinking 5 threads .. (going by the other posts in this thread)

1) acronyms (sp?) and definitions of modern cloth nappies (MCN)
2) different TYPES of MCN - please include a description and care needs
3) why use cloth nappies (including environmental impact)
4) my favourite nappy.. (see below)
5) troubleshooting with cloth - things that can go wrong and how to fix them!!! (inc lanolising .. smelly nappies .. stains etc??!!)

now there would obviously have to be some limits on the fourth thread .. as we could all go a little silly recommending things ( I know I could!!) .. sooooo here is my idea...

with the fourth thread subject -
a) NO negative comments (the brand you hate .. others may love .. please just positive comments .. )
b) each poster is limited to THREE nappies (brands) to recommend - otherwise the thread becomes WAY to long and hard to read
c) the thread will be reset (cleaned out) every sixmonths-ish ?? to ensure that the info in it is up to date .. and contains the newest nappies as well as the old favs

what do you all think??? (you have less that a week to help me sort this all out .. I dont want to spend the next month doing it .. rofl...)

I think that all threads need a fairly detailed introductory post ... INCLUDING the link to the bubhub page of nappy info- of course :D (which I might add - is flexible.. if there is something you think needs to be added.. please let me know)

feedback will be welcomed with open arms :)

 Thats pretty spot on veve. The 5 thread suggestions is basically everything covered.

So how are we going about this to supply all the info? is someone being assigned to different threads (if so, i vote queenie :p ) or are you taking it all on yourself and we just forward on information to you if need be ? or other means

oooher .. I love cloth .. but I am definately not up to organising it all myself ... I was thinking that we would open the threads .. ask for info .. and then maybe I could just organise them a little??? I definately think that we need a few different people to be passionate about the particular threads .. maybe someone keen enough to wade through old threads and condense the useful info ???

I'm definately happy to OPEN the threads (and structure the OP) - and I think I'll have to be considerate .. but also fairly ruthless with editing etc .. if these threads are to be of any use ..

I dont think I'm a scary mod though .. i'm pretty easy to PM .. so if someone feels over edited etc .. it wouldn't be a hassle to sort out :D

Sounds good. Most of the information needed we could just copy and paste from other MCN sites  Can we do that ? Get the most accurate info so it's not according to/by 'us' KWIM, but yes sifting through posts and other nappy threads is a good start.. hmm.. it took me 4 days to do that when i was starting out

You'll need to check with each individual site owner before considering copying anything.

Just a thought....why don't we also assign a contact person for each region and then if someone lives in that region or area and wants to check out a stash they can contact the closest person to them....I'd be happy to be Gold Coast.....

Yeah of course.. i'm sure they wouldn't mind since we would be listing different kinds of nappies and pretty much 'promoting' their nappies anyway. If it gets the thumbs up by mods then contacting the owners wouldn't be a problem to ask for their approval.

i think thats a great idea in theory but anyone can pose to be interested in MCN and you just never know. I wouldn't post a thread specifically for this or let ppl know that you are willing or assigned to that area to do so. Maybe if you can see a genuine person struggling through their posts and they can't get the gist then maybe contact that person if you feel comfortable enough. It's a safer way IMO.
