Hoping someone can help me out with Nappy Rash. My DS suddenly started pooing every nappy change about 5 times a day. I don't know why this is

Anyway this has caused him to have a very sore bottom, I have tried aromobaby balm, and a few other creams and now I have stopped using wipes, using a wash cloth with water and putting on cornflower (does this work or an old wives tale).

Any advice would be helpful as DS is really really crying :crying: when I change him and I feel so bad for him.

We are going swimming on Wed so hoping that won't make it worse.

Oh dear.... Have you found the cause to why your little one is pooing every nappy change?

When my little one gets a bad nappy rash I usually use paw paw ointment to sooth or curash baby powder is really great. It contains just zinc oxcide. Bepanthen is good too.

Good luck. Hope your little one feels better soon.

My DD gets an onset of lots of poos and nappy rash whenever she's cutting a tooth.

I use bepanthan and give her bum as much "air" time as I can.

I have no idea why he has started pooing so much.  Maybe I should take him to the Doctor if it continues?

I gave him a different brand of yogurt and I have stopped it today encase that is it. He hasn't eaten anything else he isn't already used to.

Could it be that he is teething, he broke one tooth.

My DS has just started doing this too, and his poor little bum is really copping :(. I've been using Bepanthan and some Paw Paw cream and it works really well.

Papaw ointment usually works for my bubs rashes...DS had some really bad ones a few times, and DD gets bad rashes when she wears disposables, but papaw ointment has always cleared them up. I also used B.O.Z. Ointment at nights when DS had his worst rashes.

I'd probably go see a Dr if it continues more then 48hrs. Usually if it's a virus then it will be watery poo, but not always. DD poos more when she is getting a tooth (or teeth like this week), but it's still firm...when she had ear infections, and gastro before those, it was always really watery/runny.

I also would not be going swimming unless you are certain it is not a virus. It's too easy to spread bugs around, I wouldn't want to risk making others sick.

Hope your little one is ok and it is just his teeth :)

I was told the aromobaby barrier balm was similar to the paw paw? Does anyone know?

I think that they are different.

DO NOT GO SWIMMING- the chemicals in the water (chlorine is but one) have the potential to make the rash much, much worse.

DAKTOZIN is superp stuff- just magic. From the pharmacy. Apply every change till it clears. There is nothing like it, it's the real deal. If it's so bad that he's crying, I'd skip the paw paw and other barrier creams and go straight for the good stuff.

NAPPY FREE TIME at every change- a couple of mins kicking around without a nappy is good, a bit longer on the floor on a towel is even better. It's amazing how a bit of fresh air can speed up the healing process.

Ditching wipes during this time is a great idea. I'd add just the smallest drop of olive oil to the cloth as well.

Thanks I have not heard of Daktozin but will ask at the Chemist tomorrow.

Daktozin is really good but only if the rash is fungal. It contains zinc oxide and an anti-fungal.

Yep, it is 'specially for a fungal rash (often characterised by raised red dots/rough, hot lumpiness). But it adds so much mositure to bub's skin without coming off in the nappy that it meets all needs iykwim? It can be on overnight for 12 hours and when the nappy is changed, it's still there on the skin, doing it's job, not wiped off on the nappy and washed away with urine. That's why I give it the  - I just stays where you put it. and also feels so soft and cool for bubs. :)

I'm in the same boat as you this week! My DD is doing up to 6 poos a day:eek: whereas normally she does one every 2-3 days. I know the cause of it though. She came down with a horrible ear infection in BOTH ears last week so is on anti-biotics for that. The medicine is really making her poo a lot which in turn causes her poor little bottom to be red raw!:crying:

As soon as i noticed it, i put on Sudocrem and it works a charm! One application and it's healed! This is the stuff for me, definitely:yes:

Last night I tried washing DS's bottom with water using a nappy liner as nice and soft and put a teaspoon of cornflour on him, this was continued at daycare today at every nappy change 2 hourly and it is clearing up really well. I thought I would see how it went today before buying the cream on the way home from work. The daycare lady seems to think it is a virus that is going around. Hope it goes soon :fingerscrossed:

That cream though sounds worth having as a back up in my cupboard.

Thanks :)

My DS has started pooing heaps too and has a little bit of nappy rash (very mild) - he's also been a little grizzly but calms whenever I rub his gums or give him something cold to suck. His gums are all white and look swollen and they are very bumpy....does this mean teething???

I give him lots off nappyfree time which seems to help with the rash, also I get him to poo in the toilet at times I know he will probably go, like he always poos half way through the first bf of the morning, so if I hold him over the toilet then he will always go, and this means it's not sitting against his skin irritating him.

My little man responds really well to the Aromababy barrier balm. I have tried a range of others but I find it works more quickly for him. Whenever he cuts a tooth he gets sudden and severe nappy rash and even after one change it can be gone (until the next nasty poo).

Its different though when he had gastro or when its triggered by antibiotics. At those times I stopped using wipes and used cotton balls doused in warm water, gave him as much nappy free time as possible (with old towel close at hand and much Eucalyptus spray for rapid floor cleaning) and used oodles of balm frequently. This seemed to make a difference.
