Lesbian parents brisbane

Hi,
Today made me wake up and realize my partner and I need some supportive people in our lives with similar families, we are both in our early 20's (feels more like 30's! We are nannas who stay in a lot) and live on the southside of brisbane and currently pregnant 10 weeks with twins, I also want a doula who is good with same sex parents if anyone can let me know of one it'll be in Ipswich Hosp. (unfortunately!) if anyone wants to chat let us know :-)

Thank you :-) I hope Ipswich is a good hospital, one good thing was that after spending hours trying to get in contact with anyone from RBWH or mater public ipswich answered first call and were able to answer my questions too so hopefully it is good at least the lady said I'll get a single room being twins !!!

I bet your excited it's a long journey to becoming a mum, we started our IVF journey in march we actually conceived via my partner doing the IVF cycle and then the little embies were transferred to me so my DP is the biological mummy and I'm the birth mummy !!! If you need any advice let me know I hope your journey is a smooth one :-) are you in Qld?




Pregnancy is going well looking much more pregnant than I am though have had 2 scans so far both babies doing well and growing rapidly it's so amazing !!

I had my internal ultra sound today & all looked good except two polyps on my uterus! Im not sure what that means? Has anyone else had any experiance with that?

That's amazing the first appointment is the start of everything :-) in a matter of months you'll be on your way to becoming mummies :-) we aren't going to find of the sexes we want a surprise :-) re the polyps please have a look at this website http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endometrial_polyp it has some info you might need don't freak out yet but it can be harder to fall pregnant with polyps and miscarriage chance may increase but I want to give you some much needed insight into IVF, your specialist gives you everything possible to keep you prgnant I had injections 3 in total and pessaries and hormones twice a day till the end of my first trimester so our chance of miscarriage are far less than a normal woman TCC so don't be scared when it comes to that because stress is the worst thing for bubba. Polyps are little tumor LIKE masses most are benign from any cancer so don't be to worried just read up and know your options, I remember our first bloods we were so worried especially considering we used a known donor and were scared incase we couldn't use him due to any of the infectious disease screening but it was all fine!!! I still remember the relief !!!!! Are you using a known donor ? And are you doing iui or IVF?

With all that in mind I dont understand why the 'success rate' is so low, & thats what freaks me out!

I wasnt so worried about the bloods but turns out I am vitamin D deficient & my thyroid is hyperactive (not that I have a thyroid, had it removed at 17, but my thyroxine dosage appears to be too high). So I had a little melt down about that, again silly, but it just felt like another obsticle & another Drs appointment, I know I need to harden up & get used to it if this is what we are going to do!

We arent useing a known donnor, we dont have anyone in our life that would be sutable unfortunatly. I imagine that would be stressful for you guys as its a whole other person that needs to pass the screamings! 2 Suprises the suspense isnt actually that bad generally i'm a person who has to plan but DP talked me into not finding out and its not hard because we just have learnt to not care its either one or the other ! or Both! and as long as they are okay then they could come out whatever!!! I only had 3 injections the rest are oral medications and the joyful pessaries go inside your hooha! You've got a lot going on for someone so young, but everything will be okay you'lll have endocrine specialists to help through your pregnancy and the rest isnt really servere!

The main reason i asked about known donor is because it takes 6 months for HIV screening to be passed before you can go through the cycle and wanted you to know about the wait but thats good at least you wont have to wait !!!

The Dr's office isnt the best but when doing fertility treatment you'll get to know your Dr and they are amazing support especially throughout the first few weeks of pregnancy when your scared to get out of bed incase you loose them! The main thing i can say is really let your partner be a part of everything with you and make sure you look after each other the journey is scary and if you think shes not feeling how you do... think again! IVF can ruin relationships so love each other and you'll get through it fine !!!

IUI wasn't the road we planned on travelling with our first pregnancy, we made a decision to do IVF with my DP and have her donate her eggs to me so for the starting of our family we could both play a role in their conception her being the "biological mum" and I being the "birth mum" it was the best decision for us considering my DP had no interest in becoming pregnant ...ever!!! ANd we got 14 eggs from her and transferred 2 back a few didn't freeze and now we have 7 left ! BUt next babies will be IUI as DP wants my genes as well unless IVF is required.


We decided to have the first that way mainly because of money we firgured when we had kids it would be more selfish to spend $20,000 on doing it this way, and we were lucky we could. I would say dont do IVF unless you need to or want to like the reasons we did it's a lot of work and money but in the end whatever you do it'll all be worth it !

Congratulations on your twins! I can't help you with you doula question but I can tell you not to be too worried about the ipswich hospital. A friend of ours was due to have her boy there but he decide to come at 31 weeks on the 23rd dec, so the hospital transferred her to the mater mothers in an ambulance for an emergency c-section because that was going to be the best place to care for them both. He is now doing well and was transferred back to ipswich 1 week later. Hopefully you have a hassle free pregnancy but it is good to know that if the hospital felt they couldnt give you and the bubs the best care that you would be taken to Mater or RBWH.

My partner (31) and I (25) live on the Gold Coast and will be having a first attempt at IUI in Feb with QFG at Pindara Hospital, we had our FS appointment late last year and I will be doing a natural cycle. We cant wait it has felt like the longest couple of months waiting.

We have the full support of our families and friends but it is good to be in touch with other same sex couples who are going through a simular process. I hope you have smooth pregnancy.

Thanks for the story, I'm not as worried about the hospital anymore but that helps!Wow thats exciting for your TCC journey dp and i didn't try IUI so I can't give you any advice but I hope your Journey is smooth sailing as well.

We used to live on the gold coast (moved for work) our families are there still and cannot wait for the babies but although they are extremely supportive, we find we don't have many gay friends and think this is important for us to have especially when we have kids to show them that they arent the only kids with two mummies or daddies!

Can I ask why you are waiting? We had to wait 6 months but that is becuase we used a known donor.

QFG in Bris are fantastic I hope they are as amazing for you as they were for us!

Thanks for your reply. We are hoping all goes well with the IUI too, I don't have any known problems and the doctor is very confident at getting a quick positive outcome for us. Its a little hard to be excited when he couldn't help but say 6 times in our consultation that I will be a great candidate for keeping his success rates high.

We had our consultation in late November, then had our counsellor and nurse appointment in early December followed by picking our anonymous donor. We could have started right away but our doctor was on leave over the Christmas new year period which is when we would have done the insemination. We preferred to use him as the other specialist available isn't great with same sex couples, so we are waiting to for this cycle.

If you don't mind me asking did you use a friend or relative for your known donor? We had considered using my partner's brother and also had two other friends offer but we felt that although their intentions were good they weren't stable enough in their lives. It cost us $950 for one ample of donor sperm which we felt was a small price to pay for peace of mind.

We are in a simular situation to you both and don't have many gay friends, especially that are going through TTC. We are good friends with a lesbian couple at work that are planning to have children in a few years and they doing it the same way as you using her partners eggs while she carries, they are very excited and supportive every step of the way but they just aren't in the same part of life as us. So we are also hoping to meet other couples that we can be friends with so our child doesn't feel like its the only one with two mummies.

We have found QFG to be great as well, really supportive and friendly.

I'll keep you updated with what happens with our first attempt :)

Hi 2ofakind, congratulations on your twins, how very exciting! I'm new to bubhub but was reading this post n thought u guys sound so similar to my partner and I. I'm 25 and she's 27 and we're nannas to lol we also don't have many lesbian friends and definitely none at the same stage in life as us. So it's always good to have contacts who know exactly what this is like and can relate to us. we have our first FET this Friday. Its been a long road but will be well worth it in the end. We've used an anonymous donor from the states. We've gone thru qfg mackay. We didn't have a choice but to use ivf as the fs said there wasn't enough donors at the moment to try any other process. We were also told that We weren't allowed to do what u guys have done with biological mum and birth mum (much to our disappointment). They told us it was like surrogacy and that the decision to allow it had to go before some committee and they would make the final decision. They also said we were looking at costs of $30,000 upwards. So we went away from that idea as it just wasn't viable. They also said they would not transfer more than 1 embryo as I was under 35. I guess, reading ur post has given me a little hope that next time I can be birth mum and my partner biological mum. Maybe we've just misunderstood what they told us or maybe they thought we meant something different coz it's just surprising that the same clinic just different locations is so different. With that said, qfg mackay have been absolutely fantastic n I don't want this to sound like I'm speaking badly of them as that's just not so. How is ur pregnancy going?
