Selling online - resources for starting up?

Hi. My mum used to be a professional seamstress and after recovering from a long illness she has started her own business. She makes gorgeous baby clothes. She has been selling her stuff at local markets but wants to get into online stuff. I know people use sites like Etsy and eBay so we will spend some time on doing that properly. I sometimes see friends Facebook pages where they interact and network with other wahm's and grow their businesses. I want to help my mum and get involved but don't know where to start. Trial and error? Read some books/websites about this? Any advice?

I would set up a facebook page for her, pop up some photos and descriptions including prices (or price range) and postage and handling details, then spread the word by liking other peoples facebook pages, by linking her page to yours and tagging your friends in the link and maybe getting some friends to pop her details in their status updates, word will quickly spread especially if they are good :)

I would try Quicksales as oppose to ebay it’s an Australian company and it's like ebay but their fees are lower. Also another one is Gumtree but the transaction don’t happen online through Gumtree you have to have the person come and collect and pay for the items in person.

For handmade clothes I'd list on madeit or etsy. It's a ready made customer base of people specifically wanting handmade and unique items.

Where as eBay tends to be people wanting ended items at less than retail cost.
