View Full Version : Stematil for nausea instead of zofran or maxalon
I have been reading through the threads and have seen a lot of people mention that maxalon does not work so they are put on zofran, which may harm the baby.
Has any one ever offerd you stematil?
I had it for my forst pregnancy cause i am allergic to maxalon. Never heard of any effects on the baby and it worked most days, except the worst days.
Is zofran just the next drug offered, i had never heard of it before reading these forums.

I don't use them for pregnancy related nausea but I alternate between maxolon and stemetil. My GP explained that they are the same type of drug but work on different parts of your brains. Stemetil from memory is more to do with being off balance (that part of your brain) so can help to stop nausea but maxolon works on a different part of your brain to also stop it. It is quite an individual thing as to which one works better. I stuck with maxolon but have stemetil as a back up.
I haven't taken Zofran but I think it's the kick @ss anti-nausea drug but is a bit $$$

Yes I tried stemetil and it was as useless for me as maxalon. Zofran was the only thing that even began to effect my HG. I wasn't just 'prescribed' Zofran easily either only when we had exhausted all other options and I was still sick at 15 weeks did my Dr suggest Zofran. But yes very pricey but at that point i would have chopped off a leg for some relief.

I am allergic to maxalon and stematil. So the dr's prescribe me zofran and yes it is very expensive and you only get 4 tablets per box. But it is an amazing anti nausea drug. I have never had morning sickness, but I do suffer from severe migraines to the point where I cant keep anything down and zofran is the only thing that works. As far as I know zofran is fine to take while pregnant.
I was on zofran for 26 weeks with my first as I had severe HG but yes it's very costly it's about $160 for a months worth but very worth it if your struggling to deal with day to day life.. No its not unsafe for the baby at all it's very commonly used these days and very very helpful :)
yes that is one thing that should be made very clean
zofran DOES NOT harm baby
