View Full Version : Bugaboo...whats the big deal?
I have seen this strange looking pram around Manly, my collegue at work raved about it and forums on here too but I cannot see why anyone would shell out over $1000 for a pram.
Can anyone enlighten me as to the benifits over a normal (if $400 can be considered normal) pram? Or is it a status symbol?

I'm with you Strawb, I had no idea what the heck a bugaboo was  until I came across it on this thread. And like you I paid just over $500 for bubs pram(which I still havent admitted to DH as he'd have a coronary) and it has alot of cool extras but I cant imagine paying $1300 even if I had that kind of $ laying around. But they do look pretty cool  and people who have them seem to really like them so I say if you've got the cash and feel like forking out that much GO FOR IT! :D

H there
i guess people shell out lots of money on all sorts of status symbols, be it an expensive watch, designer clothes, cars even plasma tv's etc. It doesnt make them better of course - but hey - if you can afford it and you are not breaking the bank in the process and if it is safe etc - why not!
I think with the bugaboo for example, its a bit like the stokke nursery range - high in price and very European, so I guess a lot of europeans are buying them. I know that a lot of people buy them from Europe and bring them over with them as they are a bit cheaper there I believe.
I think the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow have had a lot to do with the popularity of the bugaboo, as she has one and is regularly photographed pushing apple along in one.
I am with yu in that more expensive doesnt necessarily mean better - and of course you could use the extra money to buy more usefull things. Again, it just depends on personal choice.
What I will say about the bugaboo though, is that you do get a carry/cot bassinet as well as a normal seat which is good for when bubs is young. You can also attach a capsule to the frame to save waking baby when you take them out of the car etc. Also, like the three wheelers, it is designed for jogging and has pump up tyres and full suspension, and the option to convert to two wheels for dragging along on sand etc, so from what I can see, it does have some really cool features. Have a look at the website www.bugaboo.com for the full spec

my bub is 5months old and i bought a 3 wheeler when i was pregnant and loved it...but then my MIL bought the bugaboo for us last weekend as my 3 wheeler made by steelcraft was already falling apart and i seriously would not go back to a 3 wheeler after having the bugaboo, im on my 4th day of having it and convinced its worth the money. :)

I am with the other girls- if you can afford it go for it! But personally for that much money i would want it to get it'sself out of the car, unfold, get baby out and do my shopping!
I got a fantastic 3 wheeler for DD from toys'r'us and it was on halfprice special for $299 and i'll admit freely that if it wasn't on special i wouldn't have bought it!! I'm a bit of a miser :o - and i then had more money to spend on yet another piece of 'so cuuuute' clothing!!!(most of which she never wore because she was a big bub- but i just had to have it!)

I'm so with you on that one LOL :p ..........I bought so many tiny outfits for DS and he came out looking like he could play fullback for the tigers
I had a Bugaboo for my son and it was brillant. Steering, manoeuvrability, folding, weight - you name it - it came up trumps. It is worth the money as you have it from bassinet stage to lightweight stroller stage. The only failing it has is that it cannot accommodate a toddler seat for when baby 2 comes along and they don't make a double!

I had a Bugaboo too and they are fantastic!! I sold mine though because the only downfall of them is that they just arent big enough to fit a toddler in, perfect for a bub, but I could see my now 11mth old growing out of it before she turned 18mths, so I sold it on ebay and only actually lost $60 they have a fantastic resell price and bought a Quinny Buzz in flame www.quinny.com and love love love it, especially because you don't have to pull it apart to dismantle it. ohh and it also does itself up lol, it has a gaslift and you just tap the handle bar and up it comes. Plus it was cheaper than the bug at $900, still pretty expensive though. I am a complete pramaholic and with two kids I have had about 10 prams but am really stoked with the Quinny Buzz.
