Have you tried side-caring a cot next to your side of the bed?

I have a 8mo and am trying the same!! During the day time, she is ok - I let her fall asleep in my arms and then place her in her cot - she will sleep for 40min-90mins. But I can't get her to sleep through the night in her cot!

As soon as she wakes at night, she wants to come and sleep next to me! Anyone have any ideas on what I can do? The cot is right next to my bed, and I have tried holding her hands and stroking her and all, but she isn't getting fooled!

I've recently done this but it took quite a while.
I started by laying down next to her (in her cot :o) until she fell asleep, then i'd slip out, when she woke i would just take her back to my bed. Not really a great plan so i then started sitting beside her cot until she went to sleep and then when she woke during the night i did the same thing, i did this for a few weeks then i moved myself a bit further away and eventually got to the point where i could just put her in her cot awake and she will go to sleep happily, no crying. It took about 6 weeks but was worth it - she did grizzle the first night but after that was fine, as long as i was there. I slowly moved myself out so she wouldn't get upset and cry - and it was quite slow but i was okay with that.
It might not work for you but you could always give it go.
Good luck :)

Ooooh yes, I'd love any suggestions about this. I have a 10month old who is cosleeping sort of. He has never been a good sleeper but around 9 months started improving greatly (from 1/2 hour sleeps during the day & waking every hour overnight to self settling & only waking us once maybe twice sometimes not at all!).
He got sick a few weeks ago & needed lots of extra cuddles. He was still sleeping ok once he went to sleep at night but now he still wants to be cuddled to sleep (which I'm ok with) & then wakes every hour till about 11 then every 2 hours till morning. I bring him to bed with me usually about 2 or 3 because I'm too tired to try to settle him but he won't sleep while DH is in the bed so he has to get up & go to the couch. We have been trying to slowly gently teach him it's ok to sleep in his cot & we'll still be there if he needs us but even just putting him in the cot (while I'm in the room, with m hands on him, singing or talking) he gets HYSTERICAL & I'm not going to let him cry like that.
DH & I are exhausted, grumpy & he's not sleeping well on the couch, I'm not sleeping well in bed being kicked by a very active bubby... :(

we're trying the same thing with DD6mnths. Not going so great! She's worked out when she cries in her cot she gets cuddles and a feed so now she's waking every hour. Will have to postpone the transitioning for a week or so I think!

I was just about to ask for any tips!

Good luck getting your bubba's to sleep in their own cot!

My daughter turns 2 in a few months and she is STILL sleeping with us! We started co-sleeping at around 6 months as she was really unsettled... Oh the pain lol. We do enjoy sleeping next to her but it's become such a bad habit.

We have her cot, which we converted into a toddler bed next to our bed as well... and nothing appears to be working... I guess there is no quick fix solution just a lot of perseverance!

We have tried for weeks on end to put her to sleep with us, then transfer her into her own bed, but at 12.00am on the dot! she will wake up and hop into bed with is lol... Seeing as a value my sleep, we just let her. It's a bad thing, i know... but what can you do? I have visions of her sleeping with us until she is 21 lol.

And now that her cot is "open" she has more access to our bed than she did before. I guess the process won't happen over night, but it will happen... right????

Maybe some bribery with stickers might do the trick?
Totally open to suggestions here

Thanks!

I agree! I'm trying hard to put my daughter (7mnths) into her cot every night and put her mobile on...after half hour she gets bored of watching it and wants to feed to sleep. Once she's asleep I put her in her cot, but once she's up in the middle of the night I'm so exhausted I just give in and let her jump back in with us! But she sleeps so much better in her cot! I think she can smell the milk with us, and if we move, she wriggles and might wake also. So it's definitely better for all of us - but extremely painful! I might try do it over Easter when DP will be home to help with her. We're going to a day sleep service with our CAFHS nurse so hopefully they can help with that part too!!! How have you other mums travelled since this was posted?? xx:fingerscrossed:
