Ok now I get what you all mean:( my shoulders and back are sooooo sore! Bub is only 8kg imagine in a month!

Having a reflux baby I have to have DD in a carrier for a couple of hours through the day orelse all hell will break loose.

Before I fork out MORE money again........Can someone tell me about the Ergo Carrier? Is it easy to put on (been told its difficult)
Is it comfortable for bub?
Can I wear it at the front as most pics are on the back?
Can she fall asleep in there? (I do this when reflux is bad then gently put her to bed)

Which one should I get?

Thanks in advance!

Is it easy to put on (been told its difficult) - easier. There's 3 movements, the waist band, put your baby in onto your tummy. Then shoulders on and shoulder strap.

Unlike the BB, you don't have to lift the baby virtually up to your head to slide them into the front pouch which used to annoy me..

Is it comfortable for bub?
The siting position mimics being held by parents, especially on the hip (legs open, bum seated with lots of support) versus the small patch of fabric on the crotch.

Can I wear it at the front as most pics are on the back?
Yes, but not facing out - for the reason of having wider patch of fabric doesn't allow the legs to open like the Bjorn to face out.

Can she fall asleep in there? (I do this when reflux is bad then gently put her to bed) Yep, she can stay asleep in there, a sun hood is available to put up to support the head especially if in the back carry. Also much easier to transfer a child out of an ergo onto a bed than a Bjorn.

Which one should I get? Personal preference - if your in a hotter climate / taller or larger the Performance or Sports should be your starting point. If you like more colour options etc tr classic range has some nice choices...

Babushka that is awesome thank you! So well worth it then? I have loved this bjorn so much but I feel bruised today that's how bad my back is. I even paid extra for the back support bjorn.

Ditto what babushka said. Yes it's worth it! If you look at second hand ones, beware of fakes as there are a lot around, particularly on eBay. If it seems too cheap, there's a reason!
I have an original and a performance, the original is a bit higher on bubs back, and probably has more padding on waist, but it's thicker material, so hotter. The performance is lighter and cooler, so preference will depend on your climate.
Also the performance has longer straps, so might be more suitable if you're a bigger build.

I swapped to the Ergo at 4 months (8kg too) from the Bjorn, the ring sling and the pouch sling and I've not looked back in terms of carrying an older, heavier child.

The extra back support in the Bjorn is a misnomer..your back bears all the load in the Bjorn so adding more support just makes it worse, I tried one with the support and I was so sure it hurt more!!! Lol

The Ergo (or any brand of Soft structured carrier - of which Ergo is one brand) bears the weight in your strongest part of your hips..so the weight distribution is soo noticeable!

The ergo has your hips taking much of the weight which is so much better for you and your back. But yeah, what babushka said.

Babushka did you have the sport or performance?

In the pics the legs are so wide apart is this ok for development though? The bjorn they are close together?

Nah going brand new. So would you say performance over sport?

Love love love my ergo. DS is over 12 kgs and I still wear him very comfortably. He has also napped in it happily.

I LOVE the ergo - sooo supportive and comfy. It's easy to put on, comfy for bub (they sit in it, and don't 'hang' like the bjorn), yes you can wear it on the front however bub must always face in - the reason being, the maker does not believe babies should be forced to face out in a position where they are unable to turn away from overwhelming external stimuli.

Bub can definitely fall asleep in it! In fact, when DS was 12 months and we went on holidays, it was the only way to get him to sleep on the plane.

I have the sport and love it.

It's better for their spine to 'sit' like that as opposed to 'hanging' like they do in the bjorn b

I don't wear baby facing out anyway I can't see how that would be comfortable. So do you wear on front or back? Which is more comfy for bub?

I guess it could be more helpful than that lol, if you have a look on the ergo baby website there is a comparison chart. Most toys are us stores stock them (but be warned they get more commission for selling BB). You'll find it cheaper online, I got mine from babe in arms. Please please don't buy them from eBay, it is rife with unsafe fakes.

My DS2 (7 months old) prefers front and my DS1 (2.5 y.o.) prefers back. I think it depends on bub. For sleeping purposes though, both seem to prefer falling asleep on the front.

There's a side carrying option too, but I'm not a fan of it.

YES because this baby shop honestly love BB more and talked me out of an ergo in the beginning:( I just called them and asked them to put aside a black sport for me and she tried to sell me another BB  I said but I just told you my back is killing me and I have the back support:confused:

I have the old style performance - so that's the lime green without the new padding - which I prefer anyway. (I upgraded and sold my sport)

I found for my older and taller toddler, the extra inch in height on the performance, especially in comparison to the Sport which was very soft in comparison was better in terms of back support for DD and meant less lean and reach back.

I seriously hope they don't try and talk you out of it again! Lol seems like they have a real love of the Bjorn...!!

Yay!! :) good choice :)
Having the top chest / back strap adjusted correctly is important to the weight distribution..

So, try not to tighten it too much at first, you want it to be firm but not taught..also, I find adjusting the shoulder straps first better for positioning the top strap, and I find it doesn't need much adjusting at all..

Just to add that the posture in the ergo is far better for not only spine but also hip development. I took my dd to the paediatric orthopedic surgeon for a hip check (history of hip dysplasia) and he was very impressed with the posture in the ergo

Did you watch the DVD or have a look on YouTube? Bubs bum should be lower than his knees in a seated position.

I just watched it now. I think being so different I have a bit of getting used to that's all. Its just the legs are so spread compared to BB. I figure as she gets older she ll sit on my hip and the legs will be spread anyway right?
Maybe she is to little still and it will just get more comfy as she gets bigger?

I found the same thing at the beginning when my DS was too big for the infant insert but legs really spread without it. He didn't seem too bothered and it got better pretty quickly as he grew. Love my ergo sport. It's even better once you can put them on your back!

Try froggying his legs inside the carrier, this is how DD rides as she is only 7.2kg.

Sorry missed your post :) other thing you can do Loco is roll up a blanket or muslin about fingers deep and put it at the bottom of the carrier so that it pops your bubba up higher too...

That way the legs don't open to the full extent..

Yep, they recommend the infant insert until about the 4 month mark (depending on kg's / size) so if your bubba is on the smaller size, the blanket is a good transition...

I have both - didn't discover the Ergo til my ds was nearly 3 and bought it then so we could go hiking with him on my dh's back. Yep, it was great for that too!

I have a really bad back and basically it doesn't matter what carrier I use it's far from good for my back. So, basically with my ds I used the Baby Bjorn for 1 or 2 days despite his reflux and that was it. I just couldn't manage it. My dh used it a handful of times. Then my dh had him in it for hiking at almost 3 when we went away for a week.

I meant to sell my Baby Bjorn, but I'm glad I didn't. I actually found it heaps easier to put on than the Ergo when bubs was little. Yep, I have used both this time around. My back is still pretty bad, but I mostly use the carrier and then sit down. It takes pressure off my back cause I'm not fully supporting her weight, but I can still eat, use the computer/phone, watch tv, etc without needing to have arms around a screaming baby. I haven't needed to use it too much as my dd is a pretty relaxed & easy to settle baby most of the time, but when she's having a bad day having her close to my chest is what she wants.

I've not been successful at getting the Ergo on or off myself, always requiring my dh or ds to help with the upper back strap. After my last attempt I watched the youtube video on it and it looks easy, but I haven't had a chance to try since. The baby bjorn to me seems easier to put on/off on your own.

If I'd seen this earlier I would have lent you mine to try. I had bubs legs in the frog position until he was big enough to wrap them around my waist.

I was also more fond of the side carry over the the front carry.

Eta mim have you tried putting it in with the chest strap already clipped together? You kinda have to duck into it. It does get easier over time to reach behind and clip it.

Aww thanks hun:highfive: Ill experiment more with it as she gets bigger. Look I figure I am going to have to carry her right and she is already heavy for me so imagine later so the Ergo will be good. Oh well I have both. The bjorn is ok for 20 minutes here and there until I get used to the Ergo.
