DD went to the DR yesterday and was diagnosed with gastro...she was vomiting and diarohea (sp) plus a temperature. Today she woke up with a rash all over her torso, on her back, below nappy line and I FREAKED!!! So went straight back to the doctor who said that it is because she is recovering?? Has anyone heard of this before...I was a bit confused as my DS never had anything like this when he was a bubs and sick. He said its the way the body is reacting to expelling all the toxics?? and that it was possibly salmonella gastro?? gosh where would she have got this from?

Hi babytoo

I know how freaked out you would of been by the rash. My kids have had this rash too and I have gone to the doctor apparently it is common viral thing. It usually happens when they are over the worst of it.

oh honey .. BIG hugs to you ..

JAck has had gastro the last day or so .. and he is FINALLY on the up and up .. so I totally understand the stress...

re: the rash .. I too had never heard of this before I was told about it on bubhub.. and it certainly seems to make sense .. JAck often gets a rash on his torso (of ALL the places .. where dodgy spots start .. sigh) - when he is getting better ..

(note - dont worry about freaking out .. I freaked out cause Jack's temp hit 38.8 - my mother is happily mocking me about it .. as that isn't apparently 'high' - I think we ALL Freak out from time to time .. babies are soooo precious)

as I said .. many hugs to you .. and I hope that everyone in your family is feeling well soon

xx

Sounds right as your doctor said this is what often happens with an infection or illness their little bodies often respond by trying to expell it in any way possible.
I would just bath your DD as needed in tepid water to help keep her temp down & use Neurofen to also help as well as let her get some sleep.
Remember if your worried at any stage to take her back to the doctor its better to be safe than sorry !
Hope she is feeling better soon :hugs:

my ds has had a spotty rash a few times when he is sick and the dr has always said its a good sign he is trying to fight off the infection/virus. he is starting to get the rash now and hehas gastro too. it goes away once they are better i have found with my ds heat makes the rash more noticeable.

Same thing happened with my little one.
Was really sick with gastro, then fever, lethargy etc for a week, then a spotty rash came out all over her body, especially when her skin was hot. Her fever got up to 39.5.
Dr said it was a viral infection, that it's very common and now that the rash is out, she'd get better fairly quickly.
At least the Dr's are giving us all the same info!

I was the same as you, stressed out as soon as i saw them all over DS.
But my dr has said the same thing to me on many occasions now, they will get little dots everywhere, when they are getting over, or have gotten over a viral thing... Weird i know, but just to put your mind at ease, i have been told it aswell, and been thru it many times, as DS is sick alot.. well has been in the past :fingerscrossed:

Goodluck, and dont stress about it, my ds is fine!!

:sunshine:My son had woken up with having what we thought was just teething poos on the Tuesday, then woke up the next day with a few spots on him. He had daycare that day, so not thinking such of it other than just heat rash as it was a hot day & due to being quite a solid little man that's all we thought of it.

However, by the time the afternoon came around & time to pick up our kids. The Group Leader came to my husband & I and showed us this red spotty rash that had spread right across most of his little body, was raised, & felt a bit hot.

After dropping my husband off to work I took him straight to the doctor, who then told me he thought it was German measles. Now being the Friday, & three days later after having the runs a bit, he still has the rash but goes up & down & fades in & out. We still aren't 100% sure if it definitely was German measles  so any suggestions would be good or other feedback.:)

The main rule my family and i live by when it comes to a rash is its relatively normal or ok as long as when you push down on it it goes white (like when you push down on your skin). If it doesnt go white or skin coloured then seek medical attention straight away.

It not going skin colour is a sign of meningococcal.

Hope your little one is ok!

I am happy to say that my little man has finally recovered. He got pretty sick & we had to take him back to hospital at one point but it luckily only turned out to be a really bad viral infection & NOT German Measles, phew, lol.

It has taken him a bit to get over this one too, but being the fact that he has been through so much already since he was born (whooping cough & swine flu between 2-4 months old), then I think he can cope with a viral infection.

Anyway, he is doing well, still a little moody but you get that, lol.
