My ds has had his Autism assessment, and the doc has confirmed that he has autism.i knew deep down that he has but nothing prepares you for the truth i feel so sad :gloomy: and worry about his future. i have family and friends for support and i find this site really good for support as well.

:hugs: to you. It does get easier. Having the diagnosis does open alot of doors for him and yourself. You can now access more therapies and are funded for much more. It takes time but you will come to terms with it all and make some peace with it.

Our special children forever change our lives, they enrich it and teach us many things no one else will ever know or feel. They touch ppl in many ways and have a love like no other. :hugs: to you and your family.

If you need to talk, pm me anytime.

My son just got his diagnosis 2 weeks ago. I know exactly how you feel. I was prepared for it, but as soon as it was real I realised there was no going back now. We could no longer grasp for that 10% chance that he might be just delayed, despite everyone's suspicions. Fortunately my son is mild, but he still is autistic and he will be so for the rest of his life. Not knowing how he will go in life is so hard. I know that nothing is set for any of our children, but the fact that there are already obstacles for him, means it is already going to be harder.

About the only light with our diagnosis was Centrelink finally paying us the carers benefit, quite a nice backpayment it was too. At least all the speech therapy wont be bankrupting us now.
