Hi guys

This is just for anyone interested in going to the Midsumma gay & lesbian festival next January. Not a heap of stuff usually put on is child-friendly, but this is and I am really excited to go with my girls. It’s a play about family diversity and seems like it’ll be really good.

I'd also be interested in making some more gay & lesbian friends who have kids. Most of mine don't, which is a bit frustrating and at times, isolating. Anyone who wants to meet up to see this play, let me know!

So for anyone interested, here is some more info…(so sorry if this type of post doesn’t belong here!)

…………

Matilda and her grade 1 classmates must present a project about their families. With humour, and insight children from alternative, separated, and grandparent families share their stories and shatter stereotypical images about what a family is and should look like.

Matilda's is nervous about presenting to her class about her family. Constantly bombarded with stereotypical images in books and media about what a family should look like, she is nervous about seeming different to her peers. After discussion with her mothers, she confidently presents her story to the class and her teacher. Next, a boy from a split family shares an insight into his two homes. Lastly, a girl raised by her grandparents shares a poem and her thoughts. The class and audience sing and dance to an original song about family diversity, and Matilda goes home to teach her mothers the lesson she has learned from the day, that all families are different, but what they have in common is love.
