I was wondering if anyone has heard of 'systematic waking' and whether they have tried it as a way to teach bub to sleep through the night. I found a few paragraphs on it in a book as follows:

"A recent study has shown that a program called systematic waking may work as well as 'crying it out', though perhaps more slowly. Keep a diary of your baby's night time wakings for a week so that you will have an idea of the usual times. Then, set your alarm clock for about half an hour before you expect the first howl for the night. At the alarm, get up, wake the baby, and proceed with what you usually do when the waking is spontaneous (nappy, feed, rock etc). Anticipate each waking in the same way. Gradually expand the time between these systematic wakings and then begin to eliminate them. Within a few weeks you should be able to begin phasing them out completely and baby will no longer wake."

What are everyone's thoughts?
