Has anyone made their PUL? On one of the many sites I've visited recently they said you can make your own PUL using waterproofing spray. Has anyone tried this? If so do they last or do you have to keep re applying the spray?

If it's just a waterproofing spray, I'd assume it would be the same as what you use on tents, hiking shoes etc. If that's the case then camping/outdoor shops would have it.

With waterproofing boots/tents, etc it has to be reapplied every now and then, it's not a permanent thing.

I've heard of DWR spray being used to revitalise tired leaky PUL, but never to create it in the first place. If it was that easy there wouldn't be giant fabric mills charging a fortune!

Some people are also concerned about the safety of some DWR sprays, having them in constant contact with infant skin isn't exactly what they were designed for.

Thats the spray the site was selling to do it. And I was worried about the same thing re the chemicals. Well the only reason I'm asking is because I recognise some of the PUL for sale. A lot of the PUL cuts are the same fabric that my mum sells in her shop as normal 100% cotton fabrics for patchwork, and mum's retail prices are only $1 - 50c cheaper than the PUL. I'm wondering if some WAHMs are making the PUL themselves with the spray to sell :detective: I've just ordered some, so I guess I'll have a look myself. As I'm very new to this I haven't seem it with my own eyes yet.

On one site it claimed you could order a plain cotton and turn it into a PUL with this spray. Although if you had to keep respraying it it would be a pain. As it says it only lasts for 25 washes.
