Hey All
I have a new nephew and it got me thinking, What is the average birth weight and length?
I think around 7 1/2 - 8 pounds would be average weight but have no idea about length. My bubs was 9.3pound and 53.5cm in length.
What do you think?

Yeah it just depends. All babies are different.
My DD was 6pound and my friends DD was nearly 10 pound.
It varies.
When EJ was born I was told she was the average size at 7lb 1 (3.220kg) and 50cm
Looking at the Child Health Record (if you go by those) then the 50 percentile is
Girls - about 49cm and 3.25kg
Boys - about 50cm and 3.5kg

I don't know about average weight but was told when I had DS that the average length for a boy was 50cm. They commented on that only because DS was 56cm long! 6cm over the average. He was a long, skinny praying mantis. LOL.

I've always heard that 7.5lb and 50cm is the average.
Mine were :
11lb, 55cm
8lb 3oz, 50cm
10lb 2oz, 53cm
An average one would be REALLY nice, lol.

This sounds like my daughter.....she was 3.8kg and 52cm long at birth, now at 9months shes 8.5kg and 72cm long....tall and skinny is what she is. She was born under the 50th percentile for weight but has averaged out at the 50th ever since. But she is in the 75th for height
DD1 was also quite tall at birth 3.7kg and 53cm tall

Thanks for scaring me girls - I had my 34 weeks ultrasound today and baby boy came in at just under 3kg (2960g)!!! Wonder what he''ll be at birth!
My DD was 9lb 3oz (4165g) so I'm a bit nervous!!

While it's a bit different for boys and girls (boys are bigger on a whole... apparently), I think the average weight is a bit about 3.2kg, the average height is roughly 50-51cm.
DD was born at 51cm...and 4.67kg...lol. She was a bit bigger than average...as you can see.

I've never been told my babies weights on US's, but I have heard that they are far from accurate.
same here. I was told DS was going to be big but was just long.
i got told with my first that he was going to be big as my belly was measuring bigger than it should.. they sent me for an ultrasound and told me at 37 weeks he was 10 pound 7 and they wanted me to have a c-section as if i went to term i wouldn't be able to push him out.. i wouldn't be able to push him out at 10 pound 7 either.. they day he was born which was 6 days after the ultrasound he was 8 pound 5. i was a lil worried i went through the c-section for nothing but the doc who did the surgery did tell me i wouldn't have been able to push him out at that size either.. but goes to show how wrong ultrasounds can be. i had my check up on wednesday with this pregnancy and i measured 33cms at 30 weeks the doc said that isn't too bad but how big was your last child. i think he thought i was going to have a big one this time.. i am not too worried as i measured big all throughout my first pregnancy.. my babies just have a lot of room lol...
