Hi all here is the flyer for the rlly we are having here in Townsville if you can make it to support our sisters in Ingham & Charters Towners etc. That would be terrific.
Bridging the Gap Rally
WE NEED YOU
A media event to show Premier Peter Beattie and Federal Health Minister Tony Abbott that mothers are serious about birth reform and the need to give birth back to the bush.
A similar rally is being held in Brisbane on the Goodwill Bridge.
NATHAN STREET BRIDGE – Stockland Side
Monday 3rd October 2005
Assemble at 8.30am for an 9.00am start
© Approximately 80 women each year are forced to birth ‘on the side of the road’ because the closure of rural maternity units are forcing women to travel further in labour.
© Additionally, many hundreds of rural women are forced to wait out the last weeks of their pregnancy, away from their homes and families, so they are ‘on site’ for the labour.
THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!
The Re-birthing Report provides a comprehensive blueprint for the future of maternity services in Queensland, with special emphasis on improving birth experiences and outcomes for Indigenous and rural women. Show your support for its sensible recommendations and join us at the rally. See you there.
