Bridging the Gap Rally Next Monday 3rd October
A media event to show Premier Peter Beattie and Federal Health Minister Tony Abbott
that mothers are serious about birth reform and the need to give birth back to the bush.
Come bring your baby/child(ren) and show your support of our sisters in the bush!!
GOODWILL BRIDGE – Meet at the South Bank Side
Monday, 3rd October 2005
Assemble at 11:00am for an 11:30 start
(with a picnic lunch to follow in the Botanical Gardens)
”Approximately 188 women last year birthed before arrival. Women in the bush are forced to birth ‘on the side of the road’ because the closure of rural maternity units are forcing women to travel further in labour.
”Additionally, many hundreds of rural women are forced to wait out the last weeks of their pregnancy, away from their homes and families, so they are ‘on site’ for the labour.
ISN’T THE BUSH SUFFERING ENOUGH WITH THE DROUGHT? TO PUT FURTHER FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL STRAIN ON FAMILIES IS OUTRAGEOUS!
The Re-birthing Report provides a comprehensive blueprint for the future of maternity services in Queensland, with special emphasis on improving birth experiences and outcomes for Indigenous and rural women.* Show your support for its sensible recommendations and join us at the rally.* See you there.
Please RSVP to Melissa Fox if you plan to come along to the rally next Monday: (07) 3846-4664 or email melissafox@optusnet.com.au so we know how many to expect.
There are carpools being set up in Toowoomba. Please email Liz Wilkes at beautifulbirths@optusnet.com.au or phone (07)4613 1822 or 0423 580 585 for more information. Toowoomba mums will be wearing pink.
