:(:(

Hi All,

My 14 month old has been an OUTSTANDING sleeper for the first year of his life. We sleep trained him early, and he self settled for every sleep, slept through from 10 weeks. Great day sleeps, generally happy bub.

Since age 1, his sleep has gradually gotten worse and worse. Now, he is 14 months we are dealing with night waking (4:30am) and sometimes refusing his day sleep which he obviously still needs.

When he wakes at night he is not crying, just talking. When I go in after about 5-10 min he is just sitting in the cot looking like he wants to get up. NOT HAPPENING!!!! I lie him down and tell him its sleep time and leave him to it. I would stay in, but if he's not crying then there is clearly nothing much wrong with him. I havnt patted him to sleep or been in his room when he fell asleep for over a year, so if I'm in there its just a sign for him that it must be time to get up.

This morn he took about 45 min to go back to sleep, and then still woke at his usual time of 6 am. Grrrrrr.

Is this a developmental thing?? Teeth? Wouldnt he be crying if it was teeth? Moving out from under blankets and cold??

Just looking for some others who have had this? Why all of a sudden? Driving me nuts.:frustrated::hair:

Cheers,

Kate

I think it's gorgeous that he feels so comfortable with himself to chat to himself in the middle of the night :). Unless he is calling for you or needs something, I don't think it's a bad thing to leave him on his own. If you start going in and try putting him down to sleep it might turn into a game that you play every night!

I think it's just him testing his boundaries like they all do, and all NEED to do every now and again. You just have to remind him. Remember kids feel secure when they have boundaries set for them, that's why they always test them :).
