I have decided to start a thread on childrens out of control behaviour. I Have heard that if you change there diet you will see huge improvements. I just wanted to say good luck with it.
I have 2 sons and 1 dd and I try and keep them off all of the above additives.
It is definately a challenge but with label reading and lots of home cooking it can be done.
If we go out and have something that we shouldn't I can sure tell the difference in my kids, especially my 8 yr old. His behaviour totally changes for the worse.
Again all the best with it. Its worth doing.

Yep, im in!! My ds2 is the :devil6: 's child. I'm in desperate need for help.
A little snipet of Jye (2).. he doesn't listen, he throws tanties over anything and everything, he tried to convince Calista (3) to be naughty with him, he drops to the floor and bangs his head on the floor consistantly, he is always hungry and asking for food (ie. give him breaky then 10 minutes later asks for an apple), he acts asthough he's the boss of the 3 other children ect ect.. i could go on. For example Dion who is 5 is sometimes scared of him. :o
Yet when we're out in public he is the most charming and polite little angel you could ever imagine.
Anyhoo.. i have tried many different forms of discipline and nothing seems to work, i know this is going to sound awful (please don't judge me) i love him to death but the way he treats us (household member) is starting to do my head in as nothing is working and i don't want to get to the point of resentment.
So yeah, I'm deffinatly in!
I am definately in !
I have seen a VAST improvement with DS (30mths) after just dropping 621 (msg) i cant believe how much stuff still has msg in it !! :banghead:
anyway we also have him on daily fish oil
I have been wanting a list of additives etc.. to avoid so i am rapped about this
Thanks so much
Look forward to taking this journey with you all !!
:hugs:
We've been avoiding the list of baddies for a few months now. I've got a copy of the list posted on the pantry door. Since we started to do this, DD has gone from a horrid child to a nice little girl. And I can always tell when we've strayed back onto something that we shouldn't.
I've found it easier to aviod the baddies in biscuits and snacks by cooking our own and freezing. When the freezer runs low, DD and I have a cook-up to restock.
Sue Dengates DVD is worth a look and her books are supposed to be good too if you can get hold of a copy (I'm still looking for a copy).

I can say it definately works!!! Although DS1 is still very energetic and sometimes too silly, it has made an immence difference to his behaviour to cut out these things...... he even asks me now "am I allowed that mum" or will check with me before having a lolly someone offers him!!! And DS2 is so cute he says to people "jordy's not lowed colours!" ...... It's not a full solution to all behaviour problems, but it's a huge start.
It can get annoying having to look at all the labels but you get the hang of it and memorise most of the ones they can't have after a while....... Sure as heck beats putting him on medication like his silly teacher suggested!!! And I sure can tell if we've been lazy and he's had something he shouldn't have......
Good luck girls - it's worth the hassle!!

Our 3 yr old was getting out of control - very oppositional - very aggressive, very unpleasant. His swimming teacher called him disobedient, one of the kindermusik mums thought he was highly spirited, and the music teacher intimated that she thought he had ADD.
I was watching ABC the other week and saw something on food additives. I searched the net for the site they were talking about - fedupwithfoodadditives - and we tried the elimination diet.
We have a new child.
We noticed a huge change within 2 days.
There are times when he doesn't co-operate - but that's more in the normal 3 yr old behaviour range.
We sure notice if he's eaten something with preservatives or additives.
This has changed our lives. I wish we knew about it earlier.
Great thread MB, count me in:yes:
I have cut out 282 out of my daughters diet and noticed a big difference, then introduced fish oil, not a lot of change. But recently have cut out the colours and have noticed a further big improvement. She is definitely not as aggressive or defiant.
Hmmmm msg, I might try this one. Where is it mainly found?
well i have to say so far so good !!
We have noticed a HUGE difference in Samuels behaviour so i am rapped !!

Packaged foods - like twisties, flavoured chips etc, biscuits (only biscuits DS can eat are tiny teddies), crumpets
High salicylate foods - strawberries, oranges, grapes
Coloured foods (which unfortunately, are most pre-cooked or packaged foods)
This website is useful:

Apples.
They send Tom wild, worse than anything anyone has mentioned here and they're in EVERYTHING (babyfood wise and when buying juice, 60% of them have apple in!).

On 282, I've found some frozen foods (chicken nuggests etc) contain it.
You'll find msg - 635 in lots of things. Many savory biscuits, frozen foods (pies, sausage rolls, nuggests etc), I think you'll also find it in the 'easy to cook stuff' like 2 minute noodles and quick cook pastas.

You might find Tom has a problem with salicylates if apples send him wild. A good site I have found that lists salicylates in foods is:

The fed up site also has a fact sheet on them.
