We got another cat in January, a kitten from a pet shop that I just couldnt help but buy, he looked so sad on his own.
He is a nutter though, and also gets very jealous - like when we fuss our 3 yr old cat he gets this look in his eye!!
I just wondered if anyone had any tips on how to stop this being an issue when our baby (hopefully :fingerscrossed: ) arrives in June? Obviously I will do all I can to make sure the cats are not left alone in the same room as the baby, but he can be a sneaky sod and get into rooms without you seeing him.
Thanks

My mum has 2 burmese. They are beautiful.
When we got Mylo, we had already had Indi for a couple of years.
Indi became this jealous cat and would get Mylo by the neck and put him in a sleeper hold until he nearly passed out.
We couldnt leave them together at all. It was terrible.
Now they are best of friends (its now 10yrs later) and cant be without each other.
I think it can be pretty normal. You just have to keep sharing the love around between all the pets equally.

The cats do love each other, always cuddling up and licking each other's heads, but just worried about how he will reach with another little person in the house...
Hi, we put a basic flyscreen door on teh nuirsery, more for peace of mind than anything. My cat at first was wary of the baby but never approached the baby and knew not to sit on the baby's playmat.
The cat had been more clingy since we had the baby, he waits till bubs is in bed and then comes and sits on me or right next to me. He still seems happy because he can sleep on our bed still (bubs went straight into a cot in the nursery).
Baby is now starting to reach out and grab the cat - but the cat is wise to it and runs off when he sees that little hand coming!
Our cat can be a bit grumpy (he scratches us sometimes) so I have been very relieved to see he has not had had a problem with the baby.
Hope that helps.

i had two siamese and one of them was always jealous of the other but they loved each other when we weren't around. annie (my baby seal point) was very weary when owen was born but she wasn't jealous of him at all, it was only the other cat Tiffany that wasn't allowed near me.
maybe you'll find its the same.

Thank you :)
Hi
We have 2 indoor cats. The 2nd one came along last year and the older cat was jealous and neurotic to start off with but, as with your cats, they are now good friends.
We were very worried how the older cat would be around our bub and it turns out that he just ignores her.... HOWEVER the new cat totally freaked out about bub.
The younger cat stalks around when bub is in the room and will usually run out if she sees her. Most of the time he won't even go upstairs if he knows that bub is upstairs.
I think you have the right idea to keep the kittys out of bubs room. I thought it would be a big pain to keep the nursery door shut all the time but it is definetly worth it.... the one time we left the door open the cat peed on bub's rocker chair :-(
I read in a few places that when you are in hospital with bub get your partner to take home something that bub has worn and let the cats sniff it. Its supposed to help ease the baby into the home.
I also recommend showering the kittys with love & attention when bub is in the room etc. I know it sounds a bit simple but they need to learn that the bub isn't a scary thing!
Hope this helps.

Never heard about bringing something home from hospital but worth a try.
We also payed attention when bubs was in the room. Even patting them while holding the baby.
When we set up the baby's room, we didn't want to become off limits to the cats, incase one time they did get in and became jealous and got in the cot IYKWIM. The day we set everything up, we let the cats come and go as they pleased in the room and tried to set it up so they couldn't get in the cot. It was funny to watch them, try to put the heads through the bar. Look for ways they thought they could get in. But they couldn't HAHA.
My cats were generally good with DD, occasional sleeping on the change table but no big deal.
As soon as we got home, we took DD up to them to them both to have a sniff ect. And For the first few weeks just watched to make sure they try to hurt her while on the floor. Can't say i have any stories to tell.:p
