big softies flat nappies with cover - or Rita Rump pockets and cover? what to choose?

Hi All

what do you think the better option - the big softies flat prefolds used with a cover

or

attempting to make Rita Rump pocket nappies and covers - is it worth the effort?

would the big softies leak? how bulky are the coloured terry squares on a newborn?

sorry, just trying to work out if its worthwhile attempting the Rita Rump nappies - i dont have a sewing machine yet but big W sells basic ones for $200 and just wondering if it would be worthwhile the challenge of making Rita Rumps and investing in a sewing machine on top of that or if the big softies flats at Big W are a good alternative

Flats are great for newborns. Thu would be more trim than MCN I think.

Oops! As for making them, if you have spare time I would. I make my own for DS and I enjoy it. They are surprisingly easy to make as well :) there is a really good pattern- darling diapers ultimate I think it's called. It's $12 and there is every size and style nappy there. It walks you through everything as well so it's excellent if your a beginner sewer. HTH :)
