I had a c-section just under 3 months ago and Hubby and I plan on ttc feb/march next year (just over 6 months after the c-section).

I just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about trying after a c-section.

Hubby and I are both 23, the c-section was due to a partial placenta previa.

It took us almost 2 years to concieve the first time (unexplained), and we want our kids close together, we're planning on 4+ kids before we hit our 30's if possible.

We aren't using b/c, it is a decision we made after consulting our gp, who said it is unlikely we will fall pg straight away and even if we did we'd be fine.

We made the decision not to use b/c until we are finished having kids because we tried all methods and have major probs with most of them (ended up in hospital a fair few times and was advised to stop trying to find one that works! Just use the rhythem method or get the tubes tied!)

Anyway I plan on breastfeeding until our baby is 1 yr old and I know this can affect ttc.

My cycles so far have been irregular, had AF 6 weeks after the c-section, then nothing until now (got spotting), that's a 36+ day cycle! mine were usually 27 days like clockwork before getting pg.

Anyone got thoughts? advice? experience?

Thanks everyone

Hi

The information I found from a google search says that you should wait until your baby is nine months old before trying to conceive after a C/Section.

Hope this helps :D

My sister had a c/s for her 3rd baby due to placenta previa too. She concieved again first try when her dd was 11months. So obviously she never had any trouble getting pregnant that time, actually that was the only time she got pregannt first go, her other 3 took about a year each. Anyways, she just had her second daughter on wednesday and had a VBAC!

Good luck!

Hi!

I had a c section back in April and my doctor said there was nothing stopping me from trying again straight away... Obviously this is going to depend on your scar as well but we have been ttc since June and have now just started fertility treatment (I have a lot of issues!!! Hence the ttc straight away again!)

My best advice would be to maybe have a chat to your doctor if you are concerned!

I had an emergency c-section with DS1 (after a 22hour labour) and fell pregnant with DS2 when DS1 was 6 months old - no problems. Had a VB with DS2 and I had just turned 34 two days before the birth!
As my DH puts it we took 5 years to fall pg with DS1 and 30 seconds with DS2!!! :D

Hugs to you. I recommend that you get a lovely book called "Birthing From Within" to work through as it is really supportive of birth after previous surgery. It's really valuable to look at the emotional and physical issues thrown up from your previous birthing experience and if there's anything you need, just PM :D I hope you have a lovely conscious conception, a delightful pregnancy and the best birth you can imagine except even better than that ;)

Thankyou so much for the support everyone! :D

Peaceangels, were you breastfeeding when you fell pg with your second? Congrats on going VBAC, I hope to do that as well!

Ryan'sMummy, good luck ttc second time around! I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us.

Yep, was bf ! so that myth of it being a contraceptive is debatable  With regards to the VBAC - Thanks, I was determined to do it (in true aries style) and so glad I got to experience what nature intended our bodies for!
