Luka, who is 14 months, does not drink any milk at all. I BF him until 12 months, when he self weaned. He drinks water from a sippy cup, but if I put milk in there he just refuses it.

His GP recommended that I feed him "lots of" other dairy products, but how much exactly is lots of?

He adores yoghurt, and I let him eat as much of that at the end of each meal as he wants...

Dear Lukaelmo,

It is great that your 12 month old is drinking water from a cup, but it can be tricky when bubs don't like milk.

From 1-2 years of age, toddlers need 4-6 serves of dairy food each day. One serve is the equivalent of 125mL of milk or custards, 20g of cheese, or 1/2 a tub of yoghurt.

Try hiding milk in foods such as milky custard, porridges, rice pudding, mushy weetbix, scrambled eggs etc.

While yoghurt is a good way of giving your bub dairy goodness, they can also be quite sweet sometimes. It is a good idea to expand your bub's diet early with other milk-laden foods, so that refusal of foods other than yoghurt doesn't start.
